we were wondering when savannahs would be allowed into oz, because we were thinking of getting 1 once our girls pass on, hopefully not in the near future, & do Savannahs get along with Bengals. Cheers, Marg.

I think the main reason for the ban on Savannahs in Australia was the fact they are a large cat and their potential risk to the Australian wildlife.
I personally don't see that changing.

exactly the same reason we can't have F1-F4 Bengals.
Bogus reason, 99% of people with $3000+ cats will not let them outside. and even if they did, they will be neutered. _________________

Australia only banned them in July 2008, so I shouldn't imagine it will change any time soon.

The hunting skills of your average moggie is fairly phenomenal in some instances, they don't need the Serval blood.
What a Savannah, some in excess of 30lbs in size, could do, is very serious really for all the little critters, both here in the UK and in Australia.
I think as long as it remains a $3000+ cat then they will be kept indoors and pampered but once the market is saturated and there are BYB selling cross Savannahs then the whole thing is a different kettle of fish. _________________ Best Wishes

thank you for chating to me about the savannahs and why they won`t allow them into Australia. They`re worried about our wildlife, which is fair enough but i think the nature lovers should be more worried about all the follage thats lying on the ground that fuels bush fires that has just gone through part of our town. Anyway thats another story. Duma has learnt to climb on to our roof and loves to sit and watch the other two cats out the front of the house. We won`t let him out the front because of traffic.i have to watch him because it wont be long before he realises that if he climbs down the other tree it will enable him access to the ground. I can imagine the damage a Savannah could do if it got out into the wild, but surely if all owners were put on a registery, with the cat micro-chipped, then if it got loose, did damage, ect..ect.. heavy fines could apply. There would have to be a way to get the powers that be, to change their minds. Sure there would have to be stringent guidelines, but they would be worth it. Looking forward to your comments, cheers Marg
