On friday night we picked up our new silver marble kitten, Reggie!
Oscar was not best pleased! He was hissing and growling whenever the kitten came near.
Since then (with the help of Da Bird) they have started tolerating each other.......just!
At the moment Reggie has the upstairs bathroom to himself with his food, litter tray and bed in, which is where he spends the night, but during the day he runs around the house at 100mph giving Oscar as good as he gets!
Luckily Oscar hasn't taken it out on us, he is still comes to us for his hugs and still purrs really loudly (as long as Reggie isn't around).
When they're growling at each other, we just leave them to get on with it, as long as they don't get physical and draw blood, is this the right thing to do?
Any tips/advice would be great thanks! |

congratulations on little reggie...love the name
as long as they aren't being too viscious with each other, just keep doing what you're doing. judge it by the way they are reacting, you'll know if it's all talk or if it is too much. as reggie is running around exploring it probably won't take oscar long before he is curious about him rather than jealous _________________ REN SLAVEN www.slavess.co.uk

Congrats on the new arrival - don't forget that we need lots of piccies.
A certain amount of growling and hissing is normal and I'm always inclined to leave them to work things out for themselves, provided there's no sign of physical damage being done. I'm sure Oscar will soon see the benefits of having a playmate around. _________________

thanks or the replies!
Oscar started to become more interested in the little thing running around his house, I'm sure they'll be friends in no time! They don't really have any other option.
I'll post some pics on later! |

When I introduced Nikita, there was a little hissing and spitting....It's still not smooth sailing, but the boys shoot off after her when she takes off (which almost gave me a heart attack and had me chasing after them) but I soon realised they would pull up as soon as she stopped - they were only chasing to play..not attack. So yeah, just keep a close eye on them but don't intervene unless necessary _________________ Our Pride And Joy...Nikita.

I brought Orion home on Saturday & he's the same with Tsega.
Tsega's only 3 weeks older. He'll bound over to play, Orion will growl, the Tsega lies down & shows his belly (friendly), but Orion has none of it.
If Tsega goes for Orion & he's eating or having cuddles i'll push Tsega away, likewise if Tsega's being good / having cuddles & Orion comes over to growl / attack Tsega.
Otherwise I leave them to it.
Last night I woke to fing Tsega by my side 'tween my chest & arm & Orion about 10inches away 'tween my legs!
They eat next to each other & I came home today to find them sleeping on the sofa (10inch gap again).
So could be worse I guess.
I may pm you if I have concerns, pls pm me if you do!

Well we have MAJOR progress!!!!!
Oscar and Reggie are now the best of friends and won't go anywhere without each other! When Reggie first came he had the upstairs bathroom as his safe room but he's not interested anymore, so we've moved all of his things out and into the kitchen with Oscars things. They've been sleeping on the sofa together, playing together, eating together!
I'm so glad I got another and I'd recommend it to anyone!!!! |

claire,
we have 4 cats that like to wrestle and growl. It often becomes physical, but it never comes to the point were we have to seperate them. I think its natural for them to spar with each other. _________________

They are getting on really well, they play fight, but within 10 mins they're cuddled on the sofa!
One thing I've noticed is Oscars meow has changed since Reggie arrived. Is this normal? I'm not worried, just curious if this is common |
