We brought our beautiful boy, Taj, home yesterday. He's four months old, and the breeder said he would probably hide for a couple of days until he felt comfortable. This is true, although he has been easy to lure out with a wand toy. He has a good play, then returns under my daughter's bed, or under the sofa in the lounge room.

My concern is that he hasn't really eaten yet, and we haven't seen him drink any of his water ( he is being watched by a family of 5, quite enthusiasticly!). Inspecting his crystal kitty litter, I don't think he's used that, either. I'm using the same food, Royal Canin, and the same kitty litter as the breeder.

Is this just normal? How long do I wait before I tempt him with some tuna?

He is so gorgeous. I was a real livewire at the breeder's, and very confident. It causes me pain to see that he is so anxious!

don't panic, he'll get there. hunger will get the better of him. my first girl didn't eat anything for 2 days but once she started there was no stopping her!

we brought our two home at the end of June, first thing they did was hide under the couch, once removed they hid under the tv

after two days they hide behind the folding table



it took 4 different kinds of dried food including the one from the breeder to see what they would eat, as both werent eating, we learned that between the tv and the table was their comfort zone, i removed the table and placed their cat trees there aswell as the litter tray, food and water, yes we had them all in the living room

you cant see the litter tray as it was away from their feeding stations.

After around 3-4 days the tray was moved to the back door, of course they had been with us around a week now and were a little more adventerous, well apart from Daisy she only really comes to you when Mitzy is already there, odd occasions she comes on her own, Jealous Annie (Mitzy) pushes her out the way.

We have had them for around 6 weeks now, They climb the net curtains, jump up onto the mantle to look at themselves in the mirror, (nb: get a pic) go hunting for anything that crinkles, and sleep on me whenever they can.

So dont fret, your kittie will come round, two more tips you may want to try, Get a box put a hole in it, your cat will like the solitude, and put all your breakables away, and put old nets up,...ok that was 3 more.

I have the luxury of having a spare bedroom. When Bubbles came home I popped him in there on his own with biscuits, wet food, water, litter tray, scratching post and toys. I didn't introduce him to my other cats and Yorkie.

He hid every time I entered the room but ventured out when he realised it was only me and I was sat quietly. Day 2 and he still hid untill he checked out who was coming in. He was introduced to my Yorkie and they had healthy respect for each other. She only spent 5 minutes twice a day with him. Day 3 - he was introduced to the other cats for 5 minutes twice a day. Day 4 - introduced to the rest of the house, cats and dog but back in his bedroom when I'm at work and at bedtime. Day 5 - he is not impressed with being limited to his room, wailing like a lunatic being tortured and is now charging around the house night and day, best friends with the dog and cats and is full of confidence

Just build his confidence and let him do it all at his own pace.

That's all good to hear! I admit I caved and gave him some tuna last night, and he loved it. Phew. He also used his litter box, and his drinking water.

We had a pretty bad night, though. He was lovely last night and he is a serious kisser - he has no sense of personal boundaries! But at 3:45 am he started crying. In the end, my husband and I had to get up with him and I tried to entertain him so as not to wake the neighbouring apartments. He wailed til about 6am and then went back to sleep. When he's awake he is VERY noisy, but playful. I'm wondering if he's searching for his brother. They were quite the pair, and I still might buy him, but I felt like we could only deal with one for now.

Do you think he could be crying because he's looking for his litter-mate?
