Hi everyone

Yesterday I took Kimba and Alaska for their annual flu vaccine. When they had it last year, Kimba was fine but Alaska had such a bad reaction to it - by the time we were home from the vets he was vomitting and had diarrea (no idea how to spell that!) all over the carpet, he was panting and his ears were bright red. Obviously we took him straight back and the vet gave him an antihistamine injection and he was fine after that.

So anyway, as i said, they had their jabs yesterday and I warned the vet about Alaska's previous reaction so she gave him an adrenaline injetion first. She told me to expect him to be a bit sleepy and off balance but its so horrible seeing him this quiet. Even this morning he still looks the same, he's being really slow and looks weak, and he's just sitting still with his eyes closed. Should he really still be like this after almost 24 hours? He had a little bit to eat last night but I've not seen him drink as yet (again, the vet told me to expect) Its still so worrying though. Has this happened to anyone else, and how long before they were back to normal? My house feels so quiet Crying or Very sad

Hi.

I think he should be feeling ok now. I'd take him back to the vets to see what they can do. Best to be safe than sorry Sad

yes i think you're right, he's just totally broke my heart - he's got back into bed and started kneeding it as if to try and comfort himself and he hardly ever does that. He's purring so hopefully thats a good sign.

A quick update on my babies - they have both had some breakfast, although Alaska wouldn't eat it out of his bowl so I had to hand feed him wet food (yuk!) The things we do! But he ate it so im really pleased. They've also both drank some water, no sickness or any other signs of illness, they just seem really tired and are both sleeping it off. Both are purring so Im a lot happier now. Im sure they'll be back to their usual selves tomorrow Smile

that's good news hun, it sounds like they'll be ok. keep a close eye on them (i'm sure i don't need to tell you that) & if in any doubt at all just pick up the phone & ask the vet any questions you have. they are usually happy to reassure you over the phone if you are concerned.

eating & purring sounds good though Wink

Yes the chaos has started again, thank god! Alaska had a little tummy bug a couple of days ago but a quick trip to the vet and 2 jabs later he was fine. Its so worrying when they're ill - i work as cabin crew and i've been ringing my boyfriend on the turnarounds to see how Alaska was! All my friends at work thought i was barmy! Laughing
