There are probably hundreds of people who read this forum but don't post because they are afraid of being slammed.

And there are only a insensitive people doing the slamming!

That is such a shame!

If there are any "lurkers" who would participate but are reluctant to because of the fear of being attacked, please come out of the darkness!

We are on watch for impolite members and we have your back!

And we will stand up for ourselves and each other too.

I won't post on threads that have certain people posting on them because I don't want to be a target either.

That limits my participation too. :x

Thanks for starting this, Katie =)

most members on here only act out of concern for the cats - of this I have no doubt. Some just don't seem to consider consequences of wording things too harshly and scaring other users away. We are a wealth of information, and that should be used to help others, not belittle them. Educate, not berate.

By scaring away new users, we lose our chance to help their cats and save them from some potentially very poor decisions made by owners who just don't know any better, and now have nobody to ask.

Opinions and debate are fine, but don't cross the line. You may not consider what you write to be abuse, but your addressee may

I couldn't agree more Linden, opinions are very important and refreshing, and freedom of speech must be honoured to a degree, I think the difficulty occurs when things become personal. Advising and educating are one thing, criticising and insulting are another...

It's a crying shame that some people (especially to my horror including some very well established and well respected members of the forum and Bengal breeding community, let alone newbies) are too scared to post on what should ba a safe online community for everyone.

Everyone makes mistakes, and there really is no such thing as stupid question, in fact they are indeed 2 of the most important modes of learning. Better to seek advice than struggle alone...

Everyone is also entitled to an opinion, but it really is NOT too much to ask for us ALL the be respectful and courteous to one another. Even in the face of TOTAL disagreement, aggressive, insulting and sarcastic posts are completely unecessary. Surely it would suffice to politely state that you disagree (if that is the case), and understand/believe/advise (etc.) otherwise?

I think you are absolutely correct. Forums are based on peoples opinions and not everyone shares the same views.
I'm saddened by a the news that a new member asked to be deleted off the forum - for whatever reason they chose to leave its a shame as there is so much information on here that can help anybody.

Referring to I guess the thread that has brought this thread to start, I hope it wasn't my post that caused them to leave, but it was just my opinion - which they could have chosen to ignore if they wanted.
Calling me a moron wasn't the worst thing I've been called and it was water off a ducks back. She was entitled to her opinion as was I.

Anyway.... enough from me - onto the pretty kitten photos please!

Ditto.

I am wary of posting now, because even the simplest well-intended comment can get attacked by certain posters....And they know who they are.

Enough said. Happy Halloween.....
