Hi everyone!
I adopt my lil' bengal, Sammie, about 1.5 months ago. She's nearly two years old and is one crazy kitty!
Kind of a long story as to how I became her new mommy, but here it goes! One of my coworkers starting asking around if someone wanted a cat, and no one seemed interested until the next day when he mentioned the breed, and everyone went crazy. I had been wanting a cat for years, and figured this was probably my one and only chance to get a cat like a bengal for free. So I made arrangements and brought her home two days later!
She was originally bought by a family who wanted a playmate for their only child. Apparently things did not work out, and she was put up for adoption. My coworker was interested in a bengal, and found Sammie from a rescue lady, who put him in contact with the family. But when he got the cat home his pregnant wife told him that they couldn't keep the cat, and that's when he asked around at work. He didn't even have her quite a week, so Sammie went through a lot of changes and owners in a two week period.
Sammie has fit in quite well in our home, and has been doing great from the moment we got her home. The first few days we kept her in our large walk in pantry/laundry room to make sure she had good litter boxes habits and to keep her out of trouble. Soon she claimed the living room as her territory, and now she has control of my whole apartment, and recently discovered how awesome my bed is!
As for personality, she's kind of a freak. Picking her up and holding her is a big no-no if you don't want to hear loud complaining, and endure a few scratches and bites. Sammie is quite the biter, and "attacks" for no reason, even if she was purring and enjoying the attention. She only allows petting in very short intervals, and I can only get her to sit on my lap if I pretty much force her to, so most of the time she sits in her own chair. At random times she'll be very affectionate and rub on my legs and come sit next to me on the couch, and one day she even took a nap with me on the bed under the covers.
We spoil her a lot, and got a massive kitty tree for her and lots of treats and a fancy water fountain. My fiance and I don't want kids, so she's our child, and even my mom calls the kitty her granddaughter! It's been quite fun so far, and Sammie's definitely brought a lot of love and fun into our household, and I am very happy I got the opportunity to give her a good home and all the things she needs and wants.
Anyways, that's the long story. Luckily she came with her TICA blue slip, so I got her registered, using the name that the former owners were calling her, but apparently never registered her by. So she's officially LimitedEditions Samarra Chai, which is quite the mouthful! I will get some pics posted up in the gallery, as I literally have hundreds of her so far!
