when we rang Missy's breeder they said "we are asking for 200 pounds for her without papers and 400 pounds for them will you be taking her papers?"

my mum said no as i couldn't afford her with papers so we thought nothing of it, do cats have fun shows where papers etc are not needed and the show is just for fun?

have we been "ripped off?" i don't really need her papers but would like to go to a show im not sure if she is "show quality" but she is a pet and i don't need papers would be nice to have them but to me they are not a necessity ?...?

now i was talking about this and somebody asked how am i sure she is full Bengal and i haven't had the wool pulled over my eyes but....? xx

Couple of questions for you Connor...

Did Missy have all her vaccs before you got her?
How old was she when you took her home?
Did you see any paperwork for the parents i.e pedigree/pink slips?
What did you get with her...anything other than Missy herself?

Just need a little more info, hope you don't mind me asking. :)

no not a problem. missy was bought by a breeder from her friend who is also a breeder. she bought two girls from her friend with breeding intentions, she then realized she could only breed so many browns. so decided that missy had to be sold,

yes she had all her vaccs beforehand
she was 15 weeks
nope as she didnt own the parents
missy, food, litter, and wet food. x

The actual cost of registering a kitten is very minimal (around $10 with Tica), I can't understand the reasoning behind wanting to charge you another £200 for the official paperwork/registration. Even if the kitten was previously registered to another breeder the cost for a transfer of ownership should be around the same.

Have you asked why they want such a large amount of money for performing such a cheap and simple task? (the devil is in the details I fear)

Read through this for more information on the requirements & costs involved when registering a kitten/litter.

If you have the details of the original breeder then I would make contact with them to find out why Missy can't be registered in your name, they may not even be aware that Missy has been rehomed!

Should be an easy fix to this problem Connor...

you can show without papers but not as a bengal

what is this person going to do with the papers? surely they don't gain anything by keeping them if they no longer have the cat

Some breeders use the words 'without papers' meaning you cannot breed from the cat. Many on the free-ads say this.

I presume this is why Missy would cost double 'with papers'?

my cat is not on the active register but I still have the papers - do you mean more of a byb type of breeder?

Well if they are charging £200 as a pet, and £400 as a queen, it would seem likely, especially if a breeder is willing to sell a female on the active register (or it could be just the cat's pedigree, to make it look more 'sellable' as a breeding cat), to anyone without any vetting/offer of mentoring etc... at all.

I could be wrong though.

i only really want her pink slip if not im sure i will show her but not as a Bengal X

Hiya Connor and welcome to the forum and hope we get to see Missy soon xx Reading through your thread, did your breeder by any chance say they would withold papers until Missy was neutered and they have proof of neutering rather than no papers at all? Look forward to chatting to you and you enjoy Missy xx

There's no "standard" for household pet classes, they kinda just go off of the uniqueness of the cat and personality. That's what she'd be shown under with no papers.

Whole thing seems a bit weird to me, honestly. Did you ever get in touch with the breeder?
