I too have only just seen this thread and know exactly what you have gone through. I am so sorry about Franco but if anything, I admire your courage to say goodbye sooner rather than later and you have one million percent done the right thing.
My Max sadly succumbed to suspected FIP in August of last year, and not knowing anything about FIP I set off a threat entitled "Big Belly" which became a bit of a blog really. in which I updated everyone each day. I took Max to the vets almost every other day, and they treated him for allsorts and ended up giving him Omega Interferon medication, which, in retrospect, was not only a waste of money, but was only prolonging his suffering. I had the horrible sight of seeing him outside the bedroom one morning unable to move, but breathing. Just. I took him straight to the vet's where he was put to sleep. It's always going to be a tough decision to stop your baby's suffering, but ultimately, once you're sure, there's really no point in prolonging the agony and you've done entirely the right thing before he's suffered too much. I hope Franco and Max can meet and play together now that they're free from any illness...
If you wanted to read the thread it's here, but you might want to wait a while, as it's pretty heart wrenching stuff when you look back.
