What kind of food are you feeding them and you taken them to the vet yet?

Hi Chet

Feeding them Wellness canned and a combo of Iams, Eukanuba, Wellness dried all for kittens. Older kitten is over the diarrhea now and is doing excellant. She occasionally has a soft stool but not diarrhea. The younger one still throws up occasionally and has diarrhea.

Unfortunately Bengals are prone to sensitive stomachs, as long as the ktitens are alert and playful I wouldnt worry to much, you could get your vet to check for the usual bengal problems, Giardia, coccidia and trich. I recently spent some time with Dr Susan Little at Bristol University and it is a known problem amongst the bengal breed:(
I wouldnt feed to much tinned food as it is quite rich. You could try slippery elm or canned pumpkin to ease the problem. Another cause is plain and simple, worms!! if you use Panacur this will also help treat the giardia:)
Regards
Dawn

Hi Brian;

I've had my kittens for 6 weeks now. The first 2 weeks at home I was trying to transition them from the breeder's kibble mix (Royal Canin and Healthwise) to Wellness kitten, and they both had soft stools and persistent diarrhea. Fed up with cleaning the litter box, I took away ALL of the Wellness kibble and fed them Wellness kitten canned exclusively. The very next day they both had solid stools and they have been fine ever since. I have been trying to introduce some kibble now (Innova-evo and EaglePack holistic) but it is a slow process. It seems that when I increase the kibble ration, one or both of them has a soft stool. I will not try the Wellness kibble again as I fear they were sensitive or even allergic to something in the formulation. They both vomited a bit too (once per week or so) and now that seems to be gone. They did not seem to have loss of appetite -- on the contrary, they seem ravenous all the time -- I feed them about 2 cans each of the Wellness kitten. How much do you feed? My kittens are both about 4 pounds now.

I'm not sure I buy that Bengals are prone to 'soft stools' as I have read elsewhere. And I really don't understand the argument that canned food is 'richer' -- my kittens do great on it!

I have a sensitive stomach and always eat Hill's science diet for sensitive stomach.....it has helped me out a lot and maybe it can help you too!

I was also eating Hill's z/d low allergen food for a while but the sensitive stomach formula has made things better.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and haven't introduced myself yet. I intend to post pictures and otherwise make myself known but I haven't had time to yet. This subject is of special interest to me so I an anxious to post this. My Coco (17 mos) has had a problem with loose stools off and on, mostly on, since I got her at 10 mos old. She and my two moggies have been on the same foods (Innova EVO dry, Natural Balance dry and Iams canned) until a couple of weeks ago when the vet had me try Eukanuba Low Residue. The Eukanuba didn't help. The vet has tested her feces and found nothing. She is otherwise very healthy and energetic.

Does anybody know whether "loose stools" are more common with Bengals than other breeds and if so why? If others have had the problem with their Bengals with no other symptoms, I would be very interested in what solutions, if any they have found.

Ugh, I have been battling this too. I have two that are now 9 months old. My spotted one is fine, but my other guy Turi still has diarrhea. I have given him flagyl, panacur, and drontol plus for giardia. I have come to the conclusion that I don't think its giardia. I now have him on predisone, which he seems to respond to. Its not completely better but at least gives his stool some shape.

They both eat Royal canin siamese and hill's id wet food. They had been on the hills id dry, but I made the switch a couple of months ago. No change when I switched their food.

Any ideas - I have done everything and spent thousands trying to fix this with my vet in a very short time... Does he just have ibd??

Coco doesn't have diarrhea. She doesn't have accidents. Her stools are just very soft. Soft ice cream like and sometimes softer than that. There is almost always a little blood mixed in too. The vet has checked for any problems and hasn't found anything. Her health is perfect otherwise. Her weight is good, coat is good, she is very energetic.

On the assumption that it is a food allergy, I have her on Natural Balance Venison and Green Pea. Her stools are much better formed now. Still a little soft and don't look like my moggies. Her "output" volume is greater than my moggies too. She's only been on the NB for 1 wk. I'm going to give it at least 2 more. If the blood doesn't go away I'll consult with the vet. I'm hoping all will go well and I can start reintroducing foods to try to nail down what it is that she has a problem with.
