I'm really interested in getting into showing - visiting shows is a bit of a hobby of mine - but one thing I have always wondered it is harder if you show neuters - I think I am right in saying they are judged separately - are good breeders happy to sell cats for showing who will not be breed from?

We have shown Teeko as a neuter and the neuters are in their own "class" with other neuters. They are judged separately. There never seem to be many neuters at shows TBH

Some breeders are happy to sell "show neuter" cats/kittens.

thanks! did you have a problem finding a breeder who would do this - you just put them on the non-active register even though you are showing them?? sorry for all the questions!

We didnt have a problem Dawn but I know the breeder very well and yes Teeko is registered on the Non active register but the breeder was happy for us to show him, she encouraged and helped us with shows.

when we showed him as a kitten (prior to neutering) he was in the same class as all the other kittens and by the time he went into the adult class he had been "done".

I am sure that when you speak to breeders and tell them you are interested in a "show neuter" a lot will be happy to help.

as far as i'm concerned, if somebody wanted to show one of my cats i would be over the moon & extremely proud!
it would mean the best of both worlds...the cat living it's life as a spoilt pet without all the copmplications of breeding, but also getting out there & promoting the breed & my cattery (hopefully if they did well lol!)
i'm sure most breeders would feel the same
i have my little treat here at the moment who i don't want to go for breeding, but she is such a beautiful little girl with a sweet temperament that a situation like this would be ideal...i'm sure you'll find others that have kittens available in the same situation

interesting!! The reason I ask is because I did approach somebody about a queen I was interested in and asked to have her as a neuter and was told she must go for breeding because she was young - It made me think I must be going against convention!!

Back to your original question, and I’m talking GCCF here.
In the Open (compulsory) classes, the neuters are judged separately to the adults and kittens. The males are judges separately to the females, and the colours are judged against their own colours. Brown spotted against brown spotted, brown marbles against brown marbles etc. etc. The miscellaneous classes can be anything really, and each club has their own classes and criteria as stated in the show schedule. BUT - the Open classes are rigid in their rules.
Showing is really enjoyable but can be very tiring if you’ve driven for three hours to get there by eight, and also really stressful at times, but that’s all part of the fun of it and if you have a cat that takes to it then it's twice as much fun.
For me, the worst part of the day is the drive home and if my cat’s done well then I drive home on a high. If it’s not been such a good day there’s always the thought that when I get back there’s a nice bottle of Cava waiting for me in the fridge, and a big bowl of tuna waiting for Ziggi!
There really are highs and lows with showing, and when you get there in the morning you never know how the day will end - and that’s what makes it all so exciting!!

I always go to any show at bracknell I think we got the last parking space!

I was looking in his pen and a lady standing next to me said he's 8 you know which was what stuck in my mind!!

I only ever wanted a pet bengal to start with and my girl Tilly has inherited a bad attitude from her mum who was removed from showing after an incident with a judge apparently! I love going to shows now though and would really love to be involved - next time I'm at one I'll look out for you!
