I would rather point out ther firste lines in the general description och the breed:
The goal of the Bengal breeding program is to create a domestic cat which has physical features distinctive to the small forest-dwelling wildcats, and with the loving, dependable temperament of the domestic cat. Keeping this goal in mind, judges shall give special merit to those characteristics in the appearance of the Bengal which are distinct from those found in other domestic cat breeds.

Those lines tell you more about what kind of look that we try to create. What I mean is that you can have all features that are described in the standrad in one cat but in the wrong proportions and that will give a totaly wrong look of that cat. To me porportion is tha main thing in achiveing a the wild look and it i sall about selection. If you move back 10 genereations or so the Bengal breed is all about around 200 cats. The difference we see today is the results of different selections of the same genes. I'm convinced that we can keep the best of the coats and paint them on to the best of the types that we have today and even improve both parts in 10-15 years. Unfortunally today there sometimes seem to be two camps, coat breeders or type breeders. The first who often seen as huge cage catteries the produces a lot of kittens and don't consider a typie cat with great type to be used. The opposite the type breeders who want cross out to anything less good in type what they have. We all need to mix these two extremes into one cat and it will to be done by one breeding it will take years of outcrosses to get to the right kind of Bengal BUT there has to be better selection in what animals that are used in the future. If the offspring isn't got it pet it out don't sell as a breeder because someone ask you for it and pay more then a pet. Just Because the kitten is better then what the buy has got today doesn't mean that it is good enough to be used as a breeder.
