Thank you to the replies with help/advice. The vet has checked him and there is nothing medical. Have seen a behaviour vet who suggested various things that have not worked. I think I agree with the comments from jeff30189 that he must have had a traumatic upbringing before he came to me. I do not think he is unhappy - he seems to love the family and is affectionate. However, I guess cat behaviour is ultimately a mystery to humans and maybe he is not happy! He will use the cat flap - when it suits him, he just prefers the front door!

Myself I would have to agree with elsa.
Also - If your vet doesnt like the cat or doesnt know bengals you may need a different vet. Bengals are not average tabby cats just like mules are not average quarter horses.

Aparts from 2 and 8 most of these sound like a typical Bengal.

Ours.... hates been in car to vets, choosy about food, vocal to get what he wants, likes to stretch and scratch (up against walls, mirrors, windows sofa etc).

A useful tip I heard about cat boxes which seems to work with ours...make sure its large and comfy (soft blanket on the bottom) and leave it out in the house for a few weeks....he may adopt it as a bed and it makes it so much easier to persuade him to go in it then for vets trips etc.

I am quite new to the site but my mum has bred bengals for a number of years now.

I would just like to say that yes Jonny does sound like a normal bengal. Bengals can be quite naughty but you just have to know how to control them. Using a behave spray can prevent him from scratching the areas you do not want him to go on/scratch. You can also use catnip on his things, i.e bed, scratching post to keep him interesting in his own things.

I believe that cats do not miss what they have never had, if they don't go out from the start then this is best. Because Jonny has already been out, i would definately train him to use a catflap, i have spent lots of time training kittens before they go to the new homes and it can be very amusing!

I agree with Jeoff though, it sounds like Jonny has had a bad start but he will come around in time with lots of love and attention, which i am sure he is already getting.

I also have a problem with my queen, she was spayed last year and has alway's been a indoor cat, had three litter's of lovley kitten's.
But now is constantly trying to get out, scratching at the door's and window's all the time she's indoor's, draging towel's blanket's around the house. twice she's actualy lifted the latch on the top window and exscaped into next door's garden who has three moggy cat's that go out, had one of them pinned the ground i had to run round quickly and prise her off him. when she's in her ouside pen she constanly pace's up and down like a lion in a cage, I hate to keep her in but worrid to let her out, just dont no what to do ?
