being 8 years old there might not be as "inquisitive" as a younger cat but i bet not !!

Hi,

Welcome! I think you must be about my nearest Bengal neighbours on the forum, I'm just over the water near Winchester! If you've not had experience of Bengals before, then you're in for some fun and games, they are fantastic cats! I've never come across cats with personalities like them before and they are VERY intelligent so will learn to open doors, know when you're getting ready to go out and lurk by the doors etc etc.....

Bengals are quite dog-like in some ways, one of mine will play fetch with me for hours on end. They tend to have a mad hour in the morning and evening and then sleep the rest of the day! Did you know that they tend to be very fond of water? It's worth remembering that if you leave the bathroom door open when having a shower, you may find yourself with a companion


Anyway, there are lots of experienced Bengal owners on the forum (I'm not one of them I'm afraid, my two are still technically kittens although both are enormous!) and if you have any questions as your two new arrivals settle in you can get lots of useful advice here.

Thanks FG. They certainly are into everything and I guess have not lost any of their curiosity. When, if ever, do they quieten down?

We have having a great time with them and getting far more exercise than expected!

Theresa I know exactly what you mean about them knowing when we are going out - even just to the dustbin - There they are by the door almost climbing on top of each other to be exactly where the gap will come.
At the moment we are able to divert them with one of their toys but I am sure this will not work for long.

I am told that we have at least one Bengal Breeder on the Island but as yet I haven't investigated this. The strange thing is that although they apparently came from the same litter their coats are very different. Rumour's is so soft and silky it is incredible but Whisper's coat almost seems to grow straight up and she enjoys having it rubbed in both directions. It is still very soft and lovely to touch.

We have perfected the technique of having a few toys by the door when we're ready to go to work and then throwing them for them to retrieve! By the time they've realised what's going on we're out of the door. Not sure how long they'll fall for this trick though.....

There are one or two breeders around Portsmouth I think. All breeders are different though and aim to breed Bengals with certain characteristics (large rosettes, silver, etc) as I found through my year of research before getting our two boys!

My boys are litter brothers but you'd never know to look at them - Bert is very large and muscled with dramatic dark spots on a very golden background. Ernie is more delicate looking and has silver rosettes. There are pictures in the gallery so you can see the contrast between them!
