agreed with the others, it may also be worth contacting some sort of wild animal rescue centre to ask for advice. they would probably have a good idea from when oil spillages affect sea birds.

I havent had oily cats before but i have had dirty cats, I had an all white cat, and when she was a kitten used to come in looking like she had been down a coal mine, i used to put her in the bath and used baby shampoo too.

The stray cat got pantene, only cos he was matted when he came to us.

Truthfully if one of mine came in i would have done the same only used washing up liquid as its better at taking grease and oil off. You did the right thing in cleaning her straight away.

Baby shampoo is fine. I have used it on my dogs and cats before. I would only be worried if she licked it. Keep a eye one her. And if it happens again I know when they have oil spills in the ocean and such they use Dawn dish soap to clean all the wild life.
