My husband bought a Bengal cat (it is indeed a Bengal) and I now have the papers enroute. The breeder represented this cat as a six month old. According to the papers, he is going to be 2 years old in March of 07. He is presently quite shy and quite skittish. She kept telling us when we picked him up that he needed work and she was trying to work with him on socializing. Now I wonder, if it is possible that she did him a major disservice. She told us he could get up to 20 pounds. I know nothing about Bengal cats except what I have read on this site. Is it possible that he will get up to 20 pounds if he is still within 2 years of age? I know I have to earn his trust, etc, and I know I can bring him around as far as letting him know he is in a safe environment. She did not neuter him which is puzzling. He is not spraying, and he has barely eaten. She did give him shots the day I got him (I think). Any advice is appreciated. Image[/list]

first things first i would give him a few days to acclimatize to his new surroundings then a little trip for a full vet check.1 for his health and 2 for your piece of mind.
did the person who had him, keep him as a working stud boy? if so it is more than likely he has been an "outside" cat so being indoors will be quite an experience for him.
have you bought him for breeding? if not i would get him neutered as this will make him placid and more forthcoming( not at first but you will reap the rewards)
you will probably be in for the long stretch in bringing him round but you will notice the differences day by day!
donot be put off by his mood swings in settling in!
let us know how you get on!
everyone is friendly and helpful on here so any questions, just ask!
regards
FG :D

No, my husband bought him for a Christmas present. We do not intend to breed him. It turns out he is 8 months old. I will try coaxing him out with little treats to gain his trust. :) I am relieved he is younger than 2 years. In talking with other breeders who regularly do this for a living, we have good hope with him getting used to our house and wanting to socialize. Thank you!
