This might sound stupid but I'm wondering if I should clean up to remove the scent if my cat pees outside her litter box. She's been with us for about a week and has peed around on 3 occasions:
- first time I'd left pyjamas lying on the bathroom floor - lesson learned
I cleaned up floor etc. to remove all scent
- the next day she peed on a corner of the piece of carpet that more or less delimits her area in the bedroom - this time i didnt clean up cos I thought maybe cleaning up will make her do it again, to mark her territory
- today she peed on a blanket at the other corner of her area
Since she's quite new I'm wondering if she's just establishing her territory, and in that case should I make efforts to remove all smell outside the litter box or not?
Also I scoop out the litter box every day - should I stop doing that? Two days ago after I did it, she stared at the litter box and me with a question mark on her face wondering where it had gone
She's 3 and neutered. I just don't know what is the best strategy to encourage her to pee only in the box...
