We recently adopted 2 male Bengals, now about 7 months old. We are new to the Bengal breed upon adoption of these two wonderful fellows, and are discovering the joys (and frustrations) Bengals bring. The primary frustration we have is the chronic diarrhea. One seems to be affected more than the other, but both show signs of the problem. They have had all their proper shots, have been treated with Strongid and fenbendazole (Panacur), and are now in the middle of a 7 day course of metronidazole per vet recommendation. They are also on prescription diet, Royal Canin Duck and Pea. We have thus far have found NO relief. The more we learn about this breed, the more we are realizing that IBS is a common trait, one that owners ARE able to remedy however. In our online research, we've seen a pattern of success with the use of raw or cooked meats, such as chicken or beef; we have not tried this yet. We're welcoming any other suggestions, as we would like to resolve this problem and give our boys, and us, some relief. Again, suggestions are very welcome.

Sorry to hear your babes have upset tums. I had a similar problem with my boys when there were a bit younger and I can definitely recommend either plain boiled chicken or white skinless and boneless fish (cooked). All three are perfectly fine now.

i would also try them on the raw diet of primarily ox cheek if you can get it or failing that raw chicken mince. they have been wormed etc so there will be no problems there.
where did you get them from? if you can find out a bit about what the previous people used to feed them?

how long have you had them?
travelling/settling in etc can take a while and its toll on them.

keep biscuits and water down as the day is long and i would go with the raw in the evening for them.i will take a few days to take effect then you should hopefully start to notice the difference.

bengals are prone to this. the slightest change to food/routine will set them off!

I can really sympathise and empathise with you on this. I have a female kitten who had diahorea right from the time I had her in late may until september. She is better now. But I've shed a lot of tears over it, had to clean up furniture, clothes, and her bum repeatedly!

We found the answers via faetal samples, as some infections are quite stubborn to shift in the gut. They are expensive in the UK, dont know about over in the US. Anyway a lot depends on how long they've had it. Can you enquire at the place they came from? Bengals do have very sensitive tummies in any case, and can develop intolerancies to foods they've been happy on for a while. It sounds as if you are doing the right things in any case. Good luck

Sorry to hear about your kitties tummy troubles. I can certainly empathize as I had a similar experience with two Bengal kittens I adopted this summer. Both had diarrhea as soon as we brought them home. They were initially on a blend of kibble (dry) that included Royal Canin. I initially tried to switch them to Wellness kibble, but still had diarrhea. After two weeks of smelly, runny stools, I took away ALL the dry food and started to feed them Wellness canned kitten food (it has no grains). By the next day, both kittens had completely normal stools and have been fine every since. Wellness canned has remained our staple food, although we do now add the occasional meal of chopped organic chicken neck and chicken heart, both of which they go crazy for!

If you don't want to dive into raw right away, I'd strongly encourage you to try a canned food without grains for now and see it the diarrhea improves.

I have kept mine on dry food for 6 years, with a once weekly treat of moist food or tunafish, and they have never had diarrhea or any other bowel issues. I would suspect the problem is diet... either changing it too much, too frequently or with items that are too difficult to digest.
