Looks legit to me, sure, why would anyone doubt that he is a Bengal cross (which is how he’s being advertised)? And he looks and sounds like a nice cat.

The only thing that seems off is the price. Back when I was figuring out what to do cat-wise 7 years ago when my two elderly cats passed away, and I was considering many things including Bengal crosses, they could be had for a couple hundred dollars around here. $800 sounds really excessive to me. But if a Bengal cross is what you wanted, and you went and met him and he’s the cat for you...sure.

Yeah, Brian... that situation is different. The reason I worry about crosses is because they usually have most of the price tag and none of the benefits. I wouldn't buy a purebred from a breeder who didn't do a certain amount of health checks, and I wouldn't pay out the nose for a moggy without them, either.

I worry because a lot of the people breeding crosses are in it just for the money. My coworkers' first reaction to seeing Puck was "You haven't had him neutered yet, have you?" And regret that I had. Because of how much money I could make with kittens.

You can’t guarantee that that cat has 50% or even any Bengal in him. A lot of people claim they have a Bengal but are just tabbies. These kind of ads bother me cuz I know they are over charging because of a label, “Bengal”. Everyone claims there cat is Bengal and most of them aren’t. Then to charge $800!!!

This looks like a domestic spotted tabby to me. And even a bengal cross would not be worth $800, even if there were papers on one of the parents.

That’s what I thought too Sherry. But I wouldn’t know a Bengal X if I did see one.

This kind of stuff gets under my skin. If someone wants a Bengal, then buy a Bengal. Not all bengals are $800. Cross breeding to make some $$ makes me feel like the breed is being tarnished.
I think it’s worth spending the $$ on the breed, you know what you are paying for. But with these cross breeds I feel like you have no idea what your gonna get. They just want to put the label Bengal and make a couple hundred off it.

Even with an "oops" litter. the cost should be no more than a couple hundred dollars for the vet costs. But, this cat just looks way too tabby for me! You can't rely on what someone tells you -- this is why purebred bengals have papers to PROVE they are a bengal. If this were a breeder with an "oops" litter, she would still have papers on the female. If this is not the case, then there is no guarantee there is any bengal in this cat at all. I think someone just wants to make some money! Poor kitty.

Yeah, if she spent all that money she should keep him. He’d probably make a great companion to her

The ad says "Dad is a Bengal x Maine coon" ( what a bizarre cross ), says nothing about the mother so it's possible this is only 1/4 Bengal. Maine coon are shedding monsters so I would put very little faith in anything in that ad being accurate since it says doesn't shed. Poor kitty indeed, if the price was fair and the ad was honest, I'm sure he would find a home pretty quickly.
