So i am about to become a first time Bengal owner and am looking forward to it.
Not 100% sure what to expect. I know they are highly active and can have a very playful character.
I am rescuing a 1 month old from the local BlueCross animal rescue.
what would you suggest buying. what type of cat tree and toys?

We haven't settled on a name yet but here she is. Mother is a Domestic Short hair and father was a Bengal.

She is a cutie. Are they letting you take her at 4 weeks? It is good if she can stay with the mother longer as she has much to teach her babies but i realize it is a rescue and they only have so much space and getting animals in homes frees up space for more rescues.

My male liked long teaser toys and fuzzy mice and my female likes laser pointers and crinkle balls. I think each cat can have its own favorite things. I just buy a variety. Have not found a cat yet that doesn't like something with feathers to chase though!

For trees: look for trees that are tall (yes, even for the little guy). My tree criteria is something like:

1. 6’ or taller
2. Steady, stable base,
3. Nests where the cat can snooze and where I can put cat beds near the top of the tree
4. Built intelligently so that when the cat climbs to the top, there is a sensible way to get back down without a “crash landing”
5. Sisal wrap near the bottom which can act as a very desirable scratching post
6. Hanging toys on “bingi” cords. This may sound trivial or silly, but I haven’t had a cat yet that didn’t obsess over those.

As far as toys... you have to start with the realization that any kind of toy you buy for him to play with by himself probably is going to be a very occasional interest at best. My cats favorites are little soft bouncing balls and straws. That plus “kicking” toys filled with catnip or valarium.

What are a much much bigger hit to bengals are the interactive hunting toys that requires you to participate in the play. Check out: dabird, flying frenzy, and Neko flies.

Aww, what a cutie. There are a ton of great topics on this forum that you might want to read. Bengals, or even bengal mixes, are cats but not your normal cats. Your kitty will have a lot of bengal characteristics. She may yowl She will be social and want to be where you are just about every minute of every day. Catifying your home with a tall cat tree will help. Lots of wand toys. Lots of cat beds. My bengal prefers cat beds to just laying on something else (unless it's our bed).

Most of all, enjoy your baby! She will light up your life with many adventures. Oh ... and you might want to make sure to cat proof your home. Wires are attractive and dangerous to cats. Get down on your hands and knees and crawl around to see potential dangers.

It's really helpful that you know the parentage and don't have to guess at it. It's always tricky with a mix. She's a real cutie pie!
