Hi all, has been a little bit and thought id check in.

Aiko is doing great, she is approx 3.5kg now and is almost 8 months old

She is still getting used to outside, i think it will be quite a long process but we will see.

Wow what a busy couple of months it has been. Hope everyone is well and are getting ready for the Christmas period with your family both human and furry.

Aiko is very much a daddys girl and can quite often be found on her little perch next to my computer desk while i work/game.

We went away last weekend for the first time since we got her, 3 days, she let us know how unsuitable that was for her when we got home and she used the hallway as a toilet instead of her tray. We seem to have been forgiven now though

Here is a few pics, almost 10 months old. Only 2 months until i take her for 1 year check up and have discussion with the Vet regarding whether they feel i need to keep up her vaccinations being an indoor scaredy cat. Have read some of the horrible side effects Bengals seem to experience so if we dont need to id rather avoid them

Hey Steve. I took Bryan for his 12 month old F3 shot not long ago and he was fine.
Since Aussie cats don't need rabies shots or any other nasty's, I'm not sure what your're worried about.
Do you take her outside for walks on her harness? Is there any chance she might escape one day when friends come to visit and she sleuths out the door?
Please keep Aiko up to date on all vaccinations, including worming and flea, just in case.

Oh, beautiful Aiko!!!! Great pictures, Steve. Thanks for sharing. As for vaccinations, it is really a personal choice. Here in the States, rabies is required by almost all municipalities. I might caution you to at least do the, what I call, distemper. I don't know if you read about Snickers and her death. Hassaan feels certain she contacted it while she was being spayed at the vet. The incubation period is 7 to 10 days and that was the only place she had been. FeLV is another issue. Should Aiko ever escape, the virus can be contracted even by licking a shrub, if the virus is there. Feline Leukemia (FeLV) is a swift death as well. If you ever plan to walk Aiko, then I would do the vaccinations. There is nothing worse than having your cat diagnosed with a fatal disease that could have been prevented with a vaccination. FIV (Feline Aids) is another disease, which is not fatal, but can be contracted through the saliva or blood of an infected cat. I'm not sure they have a vaccine available for that just yet.

In the end, this is something you need to discuss with your vet and assess your situation at home and how likely it might be that Aiko ever escape. Once my elderly cat went into kidney failure and had been diabetic for years, our vet simply said she didn't need the vaccinations anymore -- so we didn't do them for a couple of years until she passed. Raiden goes out on leashed walks and is all over the shrubs by the street. He gets all the vaccines yearly.

There is a vaccination against fiv however it is not included in the standard shots they get.

I would never do anything to put her at risk so I'll likely get the normal 1 year boosters they give them.

As for outside that has been put on the back burner at the moment. She had a spook one day whilst pit on the lead in the courtyard and since then she seems quite afraid of outside, even if I just pick her up and carry her and hold her in the courtyard.

I will continue trying to encourage her to join me out there on the lead but even when she was more comfortable she would not leave courtyard and follow me out of the gate.

I also do her monthly worming And flea treatments at home :)

Steve, just don't rush Aiko about going out into the courtyard. Forcing a cat to do something is not the best way. There are plenty of little scaredy cat felines in the world. I wish my bengal didn't beg to go outside for his walks. It just seems once they get the taste of the outdoors, they crave it. So be careful. She may eventually want to be out there and will refuse to come back inside.

Most cat owners take care of the monthly flea and de-worming on their pets.

Aiko is about 20 months old and we love her dearly, she greets me at the door when I get home and will not let get away without giving her belly ribs

Has to be on her terms but she is quite the cuddler now and will happily curl up on my lap
