Hi,

I have some free wall space half way up my stairs and plan to turn into a cat Highway. I'm not great at this sort of thing and am looking or some helpful and reasonably priced ideas. I've hopefully uploaded a current pic minus cats though as they followed me whilst I was taking the pics.
Thanks in advance

I'm surprised the cats don't walk up the railing of the stairs. LOL. Cats also love shelves. Just look up "catification" on Google and you will find lots of ideas. Jackson Galaxy has also published two books on the subject with a lot of pictures. Some owners go to extremes with holes in the walls, etc. You've got a great start. Just continue it -- always making sure the highway does not dead end somewhere. Unless it ends in a nice big cat bed. They need room to turn around and go back the other way if you don't have a loop.

I put together some pretty awful but functional stuff in my bedroom:

And when I finally had some money to spend I got some much better stuff from:

All of these have been huge hits with all 3 of the cats, especially the bengals. They are hanging up high above the ground pretty much perpetually. The other nice thing about it, omg, if you want to tire out your cat, just have em chase some toys up and down those poles. They are spent in a few minutes, lol.

This is so late of a reply but check out a video by Pet Meadow Crew. She does a DIY video of how to make a climbing pole/perch setup, and if you are a bit handy you can modify that idea to create a great cat super highway! I will try to post the video later

But even just finding studs & installing shelves is a great cheap alternative. I do prefer putting carpet on my elevated cat surfaces because my cat Miko can get rambunctious at times and would probably eventually slip and fall on a smooth surface.

Very professional! Nice job. Serious uber do-it-your-selfer skills you have.

You should probably provide your cats a safe way down though, without the "crash landing". I've had cats that hurt themselves trying to get down from something like that, especially if they try to play or have a squabble while up there.

Ah yes Brian, I forgot to mention that as well. Thats not me in the video btw, just this woman's channel I used to watch. She's actually the one who got me into bengals.

But definitely, building another one or two shelves for the way down is a must if you do a setup like that. Or some sort of furniture that he can get down safely.

PS: You could definitely do that DIY project with less tools than she used. For ex- you don't need a compressor and pneumatic staple gun to drive staples into the carpet, any hand-held stapler will do fine. Arrow and Dewalt both make good, cheap hand-held staplers. Also for cutting the plywood, you can definitely get that done at Home Depot for a small fee, or for free if you ask nicely and its not a million cuts.

PSS: Here's a fun video related to catification:
