Our kitten Pete is doing really well, growing up nicely. We play a lot with him and we give him lots of attention when we are at home with him. BUT, all of a sudden whilst playing, he forgets about all his toys and what we were playing and starts to bite us and scratching us, like we became a toy all of a sudden, and he really hurt us, his biting is getting stronger. We move him away when he does this with a firm NO....but he comes back...and back and back until he gets us all scratched up and biting marks. When he sleeps with us on the bed, its frightening, as when he feels like it, he attacks us, even our face. What can be done to make him stop at this ? As this is driving both of us nuts! I tried re-direction - with no avail - if he wants 'us' its only 'us' he wants it seems!

A wand toy should be a great distraction for him. Unfortunately, this is kitten behavior! Plain and simple.

LOL... been there and I came up with an unconventional solution, I bite back ;)

Here's the thing, putting Snickers in another room as a punishment, ended being a punishment for me, as she'll keep meowing nonstop till I get her out of the room. And... she'll start the rough play with me again.

So once she was sitting in my lap and went on biting me unintentionally painfully (being playful), so I kept telling her "NO!" and pushing her away, but she never got the message and kept playing by biting me. So I bit her tail... she got shocked, screamed and ran away. And that was the end of it. ;)

She now bites but very gently, and all it takes is one look from me for her to switch from biting to licking instead ;)

It is like Pete is fascinated with the human arm...he gets on top of it, bites and possibly humping at it? At such a tender age? Maybe this constant biting has to do with this? I will neuter him when he is old enough.

Pete is old enough to be neutered NOW. Mine was neutered t 12 weeks. Just know that neutering is not going to change the biting/attacking behavior. It's what kittens do. ALL kittens. You have to instill the word "NO" in him. I know you have a lot of cat toys for him. Make sure he's playing with them. Pete should "grow" out of this behavior when he gets older. In the mean time ..... wait until he becomes an adult, redirect his biting and attacking to a toy and do not use a spray bottle to control his behavior. That will not work.

So.....Pete is getting bigger and into a handsome young kitten. He will be 5 months on 1st August, and will be neutered on the 4th. He still bites at us when he is bored or feels like it...or when we stop playing, since we cannot play with him ALL the time hehe, we get tired too.

But during the weekend he seems to be calmer, cause we spend more time with him. Is he getting lonely during the day?

Now his sister is up for grabs, obviously exactly his age and she needs a new home. She will be neutered/spayed soon too. We are thinking of getting her so they could have each other whilst we are away. But still i am not completely sure about this...

Is it double trouble in all ?

What are your thoughts on this please?

Hi James. Hopefully, others will add their opinions and comments. I've already given you mine. I'd forgotten Pete was just a youngster, still! It sounds as if he could use a playmate to help his aggression on humans, as long as he doesn't take it out on the new baby!

When we got our Bengal.. we took 2 LOL. Yes, somewhat double trouble, but also a godsend. They entertain themselves when we are not available for play. They run madly around the house. We are fortunate that Moxi, the female, is relatively calm to offset Xander, the male, and his insanity. I recommend getting his sister, from my experience.

We are taking your advise. Next Monday she will be spayed, and by Tuesday evening she will be with us at our home.

Congratulations. A second bengal is, I think, often the best entertainment you can get your first bengal.

This is the type of behavior that has to be stopped early, and stopped for every human in the house.

I have a cat who was so small when I got her that I didn't bother to stop her from attacking my arm. She's still small but now she can do some damage with those little teeth! Unfortunately, it's too late, she doesn't understand why I would object to her using my arm as a chew toy. Every morning!

So last Saturday I introduced the kittens for the first time. I had been mixing their scents for 6 days before this. It seems to be progressing well, the male resident kitten looks like he wants to play with the new female kitten, and enjoys playing with her tail and sniffing at her. On the other hand she is not so keen about this, she growls at him when he is too close to her, but nothing serious, and when she does he goes away from her. She was spayed only last Monday so she is still not 100% recovered. He was neutered last Friday and he is ok. This morning I fed them both in 2 separate plates next to each other and they ate without problems. We really hope that they will become friends :)

James, just getting them to eat together without a problem is a step forward. You know this will take time and patience and just let the kitties work it out for themselves. Doesn't sound like anything aggressive is going on. Things should get better each day. I don't blame the little gal. Pete is a strange, new cat to her.
