I am new to this forum board, so I will introduce myself briefly. We live in Gloucester and we have adorable bengal female that is about 2.5y old. She has been with us almost since birth and we got her from the guys in Bristol who breed Bengal cats. Se is well and fit and happy etc. But to my opinion she looks a little skinny. She doesn't really like her dry food and prefers Felix wet food. Occasionally she gets a treat with a raw meat ( chicken breast or beef ) But that's it. We bought 12kg of Royal Canin Fit 32 dry food about 1.5y ago and still have almost a half of it.
I am a little worried that she feeds most on the wet food for her preference. Is it alright?

Welcome to the forum! Kitties can eat wet or dry food. The key is to feed your kitty what she likes to eat. Cats are finicky and enjoy different types of foods -- and it is so important that a cat eat. My bengal doesn't eat much dry food either. I give him wet food because he also doesn't drink a lot of water. He has lost 2 pounds in the past year and I am working with his vet to try and get him to fatten up. He had a dental cleaning yesterday and one of his last teeth extracted (we have no idea what happened to his other teeth, but most of them are gone). I was sold a special diet food for him that he will not eat, thus we are back on the food he likes and we'll see if this helps at all.

If you are super concerned, buy a scale so that you can weigh yourself and then weigh yourself with your kitty, subtract your original weight and write down the weight of your cat and monitor this for a couple of months. I try to weigh my bengal weekly. Female bengals usually weigh 10 to 12 pounds. Naturally, there are some hefty females out there.

As always, if need be, take your baby to the vet and have her checked out.

I bought my 2 from a breeder in Bristol don't know if is the same one.

When I got mine they where a bit on the thin side as they were fed on dry only, I feed them wet food mostly and they both love their Felix wet food, mine do not like raw at all so they way I see it is as long as you are feeding them what they like and will eat then stick with it, every cat I've ever had has been fed on Felix and I've never had a problem, my 2 also love Purina one dry.

I'm in the uk and feed my two Natural Instinct raw food. Currently mixing with Bozita or Almo Nature during transition stage. Other mail order frozen 'complete' raw diets suppliers are available but I've stuck with NI for now as their pure chicken is good value to mix with their current food

I'd agree with above comments- dry food long term a bad idea for cats!

Hi Everyone!

For years, I have always believed in free feeding my babies. So, I bought dry food, as it was convenient for me to do so, since it could be left out for the kitties to eat as needed. However, I noticed that Star (my 11 month old) seemed to be always hungry, and "hoover" her kibble as fast as possible.. She gained a pound, to my horror, so I started to supervise the food, and take it away after half an hour. Diablo stayed his usual svelte self, while Star stayed chubby!

After doing much research, and re-reading what was written on here, I decided to switch them to raw, and I cannot tell you how happy I am that I did! Within two weeks, Star lost the extra pound, and is no longer starving all the time. They both love their new diet! I know I am giving them the best, and that is what I want for them!

Also, I have been trying many different kitty litters, and decided on the clumping. I have been using Odour Lock, which is made here in Canada. The grains are like sand, so they stick like glue to their paws, and they track it all over the house! No matter how much I broom and vacuum, so much of it remains on the floor! It also ends up everywhere they go, whether the sofa, bed, etc.

I just discovered Rufus and Coco's Wee Klumping litter, which is from Australia. It is corn based, biodegradable, and flushable!!! For the few pellets that they bring out with their paws, it is so easy to just pick them up! What a pleasure it is to now walk on my wood floors, without little grains of litter sticking to MY feet!!!!

Anyone else try this?
