My bengal has always had free roam outside or had a friend - another cat or dog - but I've moved out into an apartment by myself now and she has no friends (although she didn't seem to like them or show affection to other animals she did enjoy play fighting with them) being in an apartment is okay but I don't want the neighbours to make a complaint, I'm sure you all know how bengals can howl. She mostly meows when she wants to play. And it doesn't stop she gets louder and louder and howls until she can play. I try ignore her but I'm an apartment I don't want the neighbours to complain so I usually just give in and play (I've tried ignoring her but she will continue for hours) She has plenty of toys but loves those mice on a stick where I have to dangle it for her. I'm wondering if I get her a friend, a new kitten (she's always been around grown cats or dogs never a kitten) that the kitten would keep her entertained when I can't? Or would that just create two meowing cats?

I just posted a long reply to someone whose cat does the same thing. I hope you see it. Since your cat was an outdoor cat, it is not going to take being an indoor cat. Get a sturdy harness (walking jacket or figure H harness) and leash and take her out on walks. Once she gets used to them, she should settle down once you return her to the inside (as long as she's tired out from the walk). This is a problem that I do not want to have and I have a yowling bengal. Retiring to a condo with people on all sides of you, paper thin walks -- yowling cat is not going to work. Right now I know my neighbors can hear him if all our windows are open. He sounds like he's being beaten to death! Since you're in an apartment, having a permanent type of enclosure is not going to be feasible, thus are you willing to give up at least an hour out of each day to take her out for a walk? This can satisfy her need to be out among people and other pets (my bengal is terrified of dogs, large or tiny).

Good luck and and feel free to vent. I feel your pain as I go through it every single day myself.

I used to take her on walks and she is fine on a harness, but she never really liked them and if I take her outside she freaks out and wants to go back home, she's a big sook and doesn't like going out in public, yet she loves her own backyard which I no longer have :(

This can be done! My Thomas started life as a farm cat, and I was worried about him moving to an apartment, but he took to city life right away! We used to go for walks in the building, harness training, and he would meet the neighbors. (My goal was to eventually do walkies outside in the garden, but we never made it that far.) I also installed a water fountain, which he loved.

Later I adopted a second cat and they became close companions who constantly hung out together. So that is an option for you, but given the close quarters make sure that your cat is lonely for a friend. Some cats are happiest alone, but it was clear that Thomas was lonely. He would howl at the door at the cats down the hall.

Some cats can be spooked in the big world outside. The key is to start with a quiet area. Bring a towel, sit down in the grass and let your kitty watch the birds and bugs. Pet your kitty and reassure her that everything is fine. Raiden's walks started out in just our yard. We'd spend time sitting in the driveway watching the people go by, cars, dogs, etc. It took some time before he was ready to venture off further. Now our walks are around 8 blocks total and he still isn't crazy about humans or dogs or cars, but he will STOP in is tracks and wait for these things to go by.

Search for Paul Dinning on YouTube and play his videos on TV for your cat.

It does wonders.

Even after taking her for a walk she would meow, she seems to be too intelligent for games or TV, she loses interest after a few minutes.

Do you think a kitten would help her boredom? That's he only thing I can think of that may help?

I kind of want to see a video of the meowing now! Because this breed talks a lot and often constantly, but it's a mix of chirps, trilling, meowing, chatter, etc. But if she sits there and meows at you it's something a bit different.

Adding a cat to the household can go very well or very badly. Most bengals need another bengal. Getting another type of cat with out the energy levels of a bengal, the other cat will find a spot to go and hide to get away. However, two bengals can end up with double the yowling, too! I honestly do not know what to tell you. You know your cat better than anyone.

Cute little monsters!

she has no health problems and she loves going outside.. when its her own private backyard. She is scared of public places, they are noisy and sometimes dogs walk by.

She has a giant cat tower that is as tall as the roof, she has no interest in tunnels and things. She sleeps most of the time but when she is awake she is wanting attention. I play with her as much as i can but she is a highly needy cat and all the howling she does, will stop if i play with her. So im guessing... she just needs a playmate..... i HOPE that is the solution! Otherwise im gonna have to hope i can afford to rent a house when this lease is up

Unfortunately, some bengals are needy cats. If you have a private garden, then that's where you need to be taking her on a harness and leash. You never want to push a cat or progress a cat beyond what it is comfortable with. A second bengal might be good, but then you have the decision to get a male or female and whether they will accept each other tin time. Getting them to co-exist can take time and lots of patience. But know that bengals are highly vocal and the other one is going to cry and howl as well. Get both of them going at the same time and you will go insane. If your neighbors have not complained yet, they may not be able to hear anything.
