Just got this brown F5 Bengal kitten two days ago. But her pattern is too fuzzy to determine how she will develop in the future. Will she just get single-spots instead of rosettes? Her mom has brown rosettes with brown coat, while dad is silver with dark single-spots. All from Australia. Pls advise and be kind as it is my first Bengal. Thanks!

Welcome to our forum and congratulations on your bengal. It is very common for bengal kittens to have the fuzzies. I think all bengal cats develop gorgeous pelts. You'll just have to be patient. Do you have the parents' pedigreed names? I have a large database of bengal cats and want to make sure I have them in there.

Thanks. We just realized that its a 'He'..lmao! We mixed 'her' up among her many siblings. We gotta choose among like 6 kittens which are spotted/marbled, eyes can get blurry, lol. Gosh, gotta change its name now, this is quite bizzarre but come to think about it, its a blessing in disguise as we had hope to bring a bigger cat out on a leash when it grows.

I'm not trying to be critical of you, because buying a predigreed cat for the first time (is it your first time?) can be kind of a baffling and confusing experience. But it really isn't good when a breeder has no website (thus no accountability/transparency of their practices and such), keeps their cats in cages, rehomes their kittens early (before 12 weeks) and offers no registration papers. Those are all hallmarks of what is often referred to as "backyard breeders" (a bad "word" in the pedigreed cat community). You mention the low price, and compare them to pet stores (pet stores? what pet store would sell bengals?). It just sounds like all kind of corners are being cut, and quite frankly, I'd be concerned about the kitten's health and socialization due to what seems to me to be pretty questionable breeding practices.

Your baby is obviously a boy! LOL. A "backyard breeder" refers to someone who is not a registered cattery, does not provide registration papers to obtain a pedigree on your cat. There is a reason to go with a registered cattery because they must conform to a code of ethics. Breeders also offer a contract that protects the breeder, buyer and the kitten. This does not mean BYB don't offer purebred bengals. Obviously if they are charging less for their cats, there is a reason! Most breeders make sure the kittens are seen by a vet and get their first round of vaccinations, many times offering a spay or neuter before the kitten goes to the owner.

I hope all goes well for you and your little guy is healthy. Do take him to the vet within 72 hours after you get him to make sure he is healthy and to start a medical history on him.
