Hello all,

I have a Bengal kitten/cat who's very smart and is able to undo all the collars I place on her. I'm preparing for the season when the birds are ripe for the picking and was hoping that they would be used to collars by then.

Jazz is a very clever cat and has taken to removing her collar within 5 minutes of having it on. Can anyone suggest some good collars I could try. Her brother Tigger, is not (it appears) as clever as she is!!

I don't have the answer I'm afraid. I just wanted to say your not alone, my two are forever taking their collars off, at the moment I am just trying sheer perseverance!

You can purchase collars that are not breakaway. Your cat then may scratch its neck until it bleeds in order to try and remove the collar. There are elastic collars as well, but if cat gets its paw under it, the collar can be removed. My outdoor cat will NOT wear a collar, period. I put one on and within 24 hours, he returns and it is gone and his neck is bloodied where he scratched and scratched to get it off. I've given up and he is collarless.

You could try a full harness - it would be much harder for her to remove.

Harnesses are a little more dangerous as there is no breakaway for them. Much more fabric to get caught on something and the cat cannot escape. They never recommend a cat wear a harness while being outside unsupervised. Just too dangerous for the cat.
