I need advice on fortiflora. The veterinarian wants Xerxes to start taking this daily for his belly. Problem is he will not eat it alone mixed in water, mixed with milk replacement, mixed in his food. The only 2 ways I have been able to get him to eat any is if I spoon feed him or I mix a very small amount of chicken in with it. But then he still doesn't eat much. I have seen a few posts that others gave their Bengal human version, I would really like to use this first if I am able since I just paid around $30 for it.

My cat uses this and takes it fine, but I have started splitting the dosage. Every time I feed him wet food, I sprinkle a little bit on the food. I'm sure it's not the best thing to try and force this down a cat's throat on its own. I think you need to start with a small amount on the wet food throughout the day. However ...... while a probiotic is wonderful for humans and pets, unless you are seeing a problem with your Xerxes -- either mushy poo or poo that has not sat in the digestive system long enough, I'm not sure why the vet would want you to use this (I'm guessing you purchased it from him -- you can purchase it online for a lot less).

FortiFlora is a great product and it will work for you, but I would definitely start with a smaller amount on the food and work your way up. Whatever you do, NEVER USE HUMAN ANYTHING -- it must say FELINE. You could literally ruin the digestive tract of your cat.

Yes the vet prescribed it for his stool that is a little loose. The probiotic I saw someone talking about may have been for feline, i dont really remember. I will try tomorrow to split it up or just give a little every morning when he is hungriest till he gets used to it. Thanks for you help!

How are you getting on with this? We recently bought it from amazon for Benji as he has soft stools and he scoffs it all! Although it hasn't cured him completely yet. Hope it's going well for you and your kitty!

I wish mine was like Benji! Every morning I have to sit with him and feed him his food and fortiflora with a baby spoon! He will eat it off the spoon but will back away from the plate if he gets too close to the pile of food. And this is turning into a "behavior." He is starting to wait to eat till I am sitting right next to him. Guess he doesn't like to go out to eat alone

I don't know that this probiotic is meant to be spoon fed to the cat on its own. I'm always happy to see well-formed poop from Raiden. It varies with the type of food I give him.

Sherry, it is mixed with his food but he refuses to eat it out of the bowl. I put my finger in it to wipe a little on his lip so he would see that maybe the smell wasn't great but the taste was. He licked it right off. so I put the bowl in front of him. He sniffed and backed away just staring at it. I did a finger dip, he ate it. So now I use his very own baby spoon and he licks it off. He is a spoon fed kitten I don't complain, I am just glad I can get it in him and its more quality time I get to spend with him!

Suzi, I think it's odd that Xerxes won't eat the FlortiFlora with the food. I guess the important thing is that you get it in his digestive system. I guess he wouldn't eat the food with it if you spoon fed him?
