I recently had my beautiful Bengal boy Jasper neutered and sent off the proof to the breeder in order to obtain his TICA registration papers. After several e-mails and having confirmed many times which name and address I want his details to be registered to, the breeder has now sent me a 'breeder slip' form for me to complete and send off to TICA myself.

Having had pedigree cats most of my life, and Jasper being the fourth Bengal I have owned - I have strangely never been asked to do this before, previous breeders have just sent me the registration papers once I had done my obligations as far as any neutering was completed.

I have registered on the TICA web-site to see if I can do this online rather than post the form to the address stated which is in Texas! However, I am finding it difficult to find on the web-site where I can do this as a non-member of TICA. I am hoping those more experienced with TICA would offer some help to guide me through the process. Also do I have to pay to have my boy registered, having paid quite a bit to purchase him from a registered breeder I feel a bit aggrieved to have to pay out more money?

There is also other information the breeder has failed to provide, as his recorded chip number has been confirmed as incorrect which I am still trying to resolve, and the Petlog registration number has never been provided.

Any help/guidance would be much appreciated.

The breeder will give you a blue litter registration slip. Breeders only register the kittens as a litter group. It is up to you to fill it out the form and mail it, along with the registration fee, to TICA. This way, you choose the registered name and TICA gets the information they require as to whether your kitten can be shown or not. It will also indicate if the kitten is going to be allowed to be used for breeding but this is moot now, since he is neutered.

I think that what your breeder is doing is the typical way of doing this. The cost of his individual registration is up to you.

Welcome to our forum! Since I am not a breeder, I can only tell you about my experience. TICA requires the registration on a blue form! The form will have the breeder's cattery name as the prefix. The form will also list the pedigreed names and registration numbers of the parents. You get to select the pedigreed name of your cat and there is a spot for an alternate name in case that name has already been selected. Know that may cats have the same name -- but the cattery prefix must be different.

A check has to be mailed in with the form. It was $12 when I registered mine. You also have the option of purchasing a 3 or 5 generation pedigree for your cat ($30 or $50). They send it laminated (at least Raiden's is). This allows you to see the cats in your cat's lineage and would make it easy for me to determine the F generation of your bengal (the number of generations removed from the Asian Leopard Cat).

I see Kyenta has posted and commented on the "not for show" and "not for breeding" boxes that would probably be checked by the breeder.

I got my bengal when he was six years old and he had never been registered -- his blue slip was not sent in by the previous owner. As for the microchip number -- a vet can scan and you can get the numbers (letters and numbers) and verify them. I'm sure you can get everything straightened out without much problem. But, yes, most breeders have the owners register the cat so you can select the pedigreed name for your cat and order a pedigree or not.

Thank you Sherry for your reply. Previous breeders I have dealt with have always asked me for what pedigree name I would like for the registration, and my address details and done this part of the process. In all the years I can honestly say this is the first time I have to complete the form and pay for the registration fee myself. Of course if this is the 'norm' I am more than happy to do this.

The form itself does say you can do this on-line and pay via paypal, but having navigated around the TICA web-site I cannot find where to do this, perhaps I will have a look again.

I have had the same with all my bengals as I got them all from the same breeder.
I sent them proof of the cats being neutered and never got anything back I asked a couple of times and gave up in the end as I didn't know what else to do.

Hi Snowy

It took me ages to find out how to do this but if you go to https://online.tica.org and click on create an account and enter your details. Once you have done this click on registration on the left hand side and then click on cat registration from a breeder slip and enter the details on the slip. You are done.

Thanks

Chris

I find it interesting that TICA would allow this information to be put in manually since registration numbers are easily found online and you could potentially put any pedigreed sire and dam in the space for the parents. TICA does not want fraudulent or incorrect information in their system as it then screws up all the pedigrees (unless they verify with the breeders). I'm guessing you have to pay online, but $12 is nothing if I want to register my kitten with Supreme Grand Champions as parents. I realize most people won't go to all that trouble, but just one would mess the database up good.

I'm editing to say I just went to TICA and in order to create an account, they have to have your email address on file with the executive office. I'm guessing breeders and members can enter information, but your regular Joe with a bengal kitten cannot.
