what is all this rubbish coming up on all of the posts, is it advertising or something?

Yes, it's a spammer. Trying to get more traffic on his/her website by posting on old threads. First time I've seen it here. I used to have a ban-hammer at another forum I frequent, for whenever this happens. There are ways for moderators to clean up the spam posts eventually.

We simply need to ignore them and the post will eventually drop off to another page. If we comment on them, it moves it back to the top! I've never noticed -- is there a "report" button on these posts? If so, then hit it and the moderators should be notified. Thankfully, we don't get a lot of spammers, so it hasn't been a big problem for us.
