Hey just thought I would introduce myself!
In a few weeks time I will officially have my furbaby!
Very excited is an understatement!
I have educated myself on all sorts of things while also making the mistake of leaving a deposit to a breeder that hadn't been health checking for certain important diseases, so this was annoying and my constant questions annoyed her! but in the long run my mind will atleast be at rest as the breeder I am with now is very serious about health checking her kittens/parents and even has records of grandparents for me :)

Prior to creating my own account here I have stumbled upon some good to know information so I do hope that your all still around to give me some advice when it will be needed!
I'm a young stay at home mum to my daughter and very fortunate that I am able to do this, gets very lonely at times and I just know that this little baby will complete our small family of 3, my daughter is also very excited Ofcourse!

Spent a fortune on kitty's food,litter and all her main essentials already, breeder kindly gave me a discount code but I probably went overboard! It literally is like preparing for a baby again, and I still need to get a cat tree
So I very much look forward to chatting, giving my advice & seeing all of your beautys & showing mine off to you!

Some quick advice:

Get pet insurance and immediately. Early insurance means no preexisting conditions. Insurance means never having to choose between debt and your pet (some operations can be very expensive).

Make sure your breeder gives you some food and litter or at least purchase the same brands yourself for transitioning. Kittens are super sensitive to change. Litter usually is easy but when it's not its messy!

Finally transition at the kitten's pace. Some will be ready as soon as you get then and some will be overwhelmed and lost. Give them a small space to start and wait until they are comfortable before opening up everything to them. I would set up an initial box or crate that they can retreat to with a comfortable smell for them (hopefully the breeder provides a familiar blanket) and make sure they can always reach it.

Thank you :) Breeder will bring food/Litter/blankets ect, I have also purchased the same food and litter for her, she will be 4 weeks insured and I will be continuing the insurance too, I've been so focused on getting a kitten that none of the xmas pressie are sorted!

I also have a small bathroom that she can use as a safe room and I was going to speak to the breeder about this when she drops her off :)

Welcome, Gucci. Congratulations on your upcoming baby. Yes, it is like preparing to bring a newborn home from the hospital. Ontario gave you excellent advice. It can be a bit traumatic for a new kitten to leave its mom and siblings and their familiar surroundings and go into a new environment with new people, new smells. So, patience is the key and to give the little one a chance to acclimate at her own pace. Everyone will want to grab her and hold her, especially young children, but you need to wait until she is ready for this. More and more breeders are coming around to the health screenings. A great site to check for health issues is http://www.bengal-data.com. I'm sure they would have the grandparents listed, however, the health issues may be further back in the pedigree. If you have their pedigreed names, I can check on this information for you.
