There's only 2 foods on that list that I've ever seen sold around these parts: Earthborn Holistic, and Ziwi Peak. My cats eat a lot of Earthborn (canned). Great stuff, you can definitely see the high quality of the meat, and fortunately my cats love many of the flavors. Ziwi Peak they all hate :( I'm sure it's great stuff, but it only comes in these oddball flavors that my cats really don't know what to do with (certainly not eat). When Neytiri turns her nose up at a food, that's bad! She likes pretty much everything

Oh well. I'll look out for those other foods and try them if I ever come across them.

My cat's favorite Koha (formerly Mauri) was not mentioned in the article. They are switching from NZ to US production and changing their formula and only manufacturing larger 5.5 oz cans. Plus it is difficult to get from local pet stores now. I recently found the new venison stew on Amazon.com so I ordered a case, but they have never been available from the internet in the past.

I generally try to stick to a single protein venison cat food for Blondie and Grace. They love Ziwi Peak venison and lick the plate clean long after every bit is gone, but the price! It's $2.70 for a 3 oz can at my local pet store, and it looks and smells identical to Koha. Chewy sells Ziwi Peak venison for $60 for 24-3 oz cans. I think Koha was about $40 when they offered 3 oz cans. When did cat food get so expensive? I have also ordered a case of Lotus venison from Chewy. It was also quite expensive. I think I paid $45 for 24 two and a half oz cans. There is a lot of liquid in that food too as it is more like a stew. Grace ate it but Blondie rejected it at first but eventually grew to like it. I will give Earthborn Holistic a try. Last week I got a case of Pet Guard Venison canned food, but I don't think I will get it again. The first ingredient is water sufficient for processing, venison, rice, rice flour, dried egg product, sunflower oil...Grace is eating it, but after two days Blondie decided it's not for her. Plus in that article it says manufacture location unknown. I need something they both will love, that will keep them both in great health and that doesn't cost significantly more than my food.

You can go crazy reading reviews on pet food. Everyone has an opinion, everyone has their own method of determining the best food. The key is millions of cats survive just fine on Friskies. So it's not the best thing, but hey ... I can live on popcorn and cheetos. Not the best food for a human either but I also enjoy and eat chicken, turkey and fish. Poor Raiden -- his brand was disqualified immediately. But ... it's what he eats. I've tried the other high-quality brands and he just won't eat it. Why spend the $$$ when the cat turns its nose up? I'd rather he eat the food. He maintains his weight and his healthy, so I'm not worried! It's not that I don't want to spend the high dollars to feed Raiden, it's just that I spent hours at the pet store one day picking up a couple of cans of about 40 different foods -- only to have him turn his nose up at 99% of them. Then the ones that he did like and I tracked in my phone -- I bought a case of each and he refused to touch them. Even the outdoor cat wouldn't eat them. I ended up giving the food away. So ... so much for that.

I hear you Sherry. My last cat would only eat Fancy Feast (turkey or chicken). I tried many different ones from the vet and Pet superstores and she just refused. She came to me as an adult and had already developed a taste for food that was not ideal. That resulted in many years of treating her for kidney failure. I am pretty sure her diet contributed to that. I am determined to never let my cats taste supermarket cat food in an attempt to keep them healthy for as long as I can. They have only ever had premium cat food and are not that fussy but they definitely prefer the priciest ones over less expensive brands. I am trying to find a balance with a healthy one at a reasonable price that they love. Since I now know so much more about cat nutrition thanks to this forum, I can make much better choices.

Maybe it's that I don't have the patience to try and figure things out for Raiden. He has always been a picky eater and only ate Friskies dry the first six years of his life at his previous home. He never had wet food. I don't know that a bad diet contributes to kidney disease, because my friend has an 18-year old cat that has survived on Friskies all his life and is just now going into the early stages of kidney failure. It's common among older cats as the organs start to fail due to old age. Maybe a higher-grade of food would have delayed that, but I had a 17-year old cat in kidney failure. I would LOVE for Raiden to eat the best food on the market. But cats are picky. A neighbor down the street feeds a stray cat Special Kitty. When she goes out of town, I will feed the cat Fancy Feast dry. Now the cat doesn't want to touch the Special Kitty and when he sees me, he comes running to me thinking I have better food for him.
