Last night I was washing dishes and ignoring Tiger in his hiding place in the cabinet, but speaking softly like I've been doing for a few days now.
After about twenty minutes I felt him rubbing against the back of my legs! For the first time, I saw him walking around the kitchen confidently, stretching his legs and investigating everything, and it made me so happy!! I was able to play with him for a half hour. He looked like he was having a blast and I felt honored to give him some play time. He even let me pet him softly on the head! When my boyfriend came home from work, he was greeted the same way, rubbing against his legs and talking a bunch of course!

Congratulations - you are now owned by a bengal.

This is a great story and so wonderful that your new kitty is getting used to a new, clean home. Cats really appreciate fresh food and water, a clean litter box and a clean floor. My cats are so happy when all these elements are in place.

Cats can change their personality and habits in a new situation. I saw this happen with my mother's rescue cat that lived under her bed all the years she had Archie. We figured he was feral and just accepted he would only come out at night and howl and hide during the day. I think it was because she played the TV too loud and never played with Archie. Eventually he came to live with me and my loving Siamese briefly while I tried to rehome him. My Madelyn did not accept him but he watched her and I interact and soon he copied her behavior and was all over me and acting like a normal cat. Not long after, I found a man with two young daughters who wanted to adopt Archie. He was scared at first, but the man reported back to me that Archie had become one of the family and loved to play with his daughters. I felt so happy that Archie had a new, happy life that he deserved. He was like a totally different cat and thriving.
