Hello everyone,

Firstly i just want to thank everyone on here for all the hours of advise and dedication that is on this website, since putting a deposit down on my Bengal I have lived on this site everyday!

Okay so i have a question to ask regarding our new Kitten because I am a complete novice with all cats in general (so i decided to buy a Bengal as my first cat... probably not the wisest of moves but I'm determined to put in the time and effort needed for him).

Koji is 13 weeks old, he was born in a litter of 2 kittens and we picked him up 4 days ago. He is a very sweet and confident chappy, within hours of him coming home he was climbing all over us and falling asleep on us but this is where i am a little concerned, all he does is sleep.

I have read that kittens do sleep a lot but he is literally sleeping 18 hours + a day (always on my lap or hand). He gets 1 energy burst a day but that lasts about 15 mins and then the goes back to sleeping. His energy burst seems nothing like the infamous 'Bengal crazies' i have read about. He is only half bothered with toys, he tried to attack me feet once but i quickly nipped that in the bud (wishful thinking) and he now kicks the stuffing out a cuddly toy instead of his human.

He had his kitten check up at the vet and he is Healthy, hes eating well and drinking lots of water. He is currently confined to 2 rooms of the house. The house is a good temperature too!

Is his behavior normal? Has anyone else ever had such a laid back kitten?
Maybe i am just over worrying about this and he may be the most chilled out purry Bengal?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

He is a baby and babies sleep a lot. He sounds perfectly normal. He is eating, drinking and playing. He sounds perfect to me. It sounds as if you are doing all the right things. Enjoy him!

Koji does sound like he is a rather on the quiet side. Thinking back to my 2 at that age they were eating everything they could and either totally sleeping or totally running around - the latter for much more than 15 mins a day.

I take it he is getting plenty of food a day - kittens at that age shouldn't be restricted in what they eat.

As the vet is happy, I'd keep an eye on things, but not be particularly worried - plenty of food and plenty of play should keep him happy.

I think every cat is an individual just like us with different requirements. My kittens (not pure bread) came to live with me at 4 months old. They only seemed to sleep at night and fewer hours than me. They were very active all day long. I can't say for sure when I was at work, but on the weekend they never stopped. They are two and a half now. I would say about a year ago I noticed them starting to take naps on the weekends in the afternoon. I thought something was wrong, but they are perfectly healthy. Now they take long naps on the weekend during most of the day and sleep at night. If I go into the kitchen they appear and follow me around. I can get them to play but they want to go back asleep. They are very hyper active in the morning and the evenings, but during they day they chill out and act like cats.

Welcome to our forum and congratulations on your new baby! As members have posted -- each kitty is different. It does appear unusual that a kitten will sleep this much, but perhaps it is normal for this kitty. You did take him to the vet and the vet said he was fine, so just give it some time. I'm sure he still adjusting to his new environment. The energy and zoomies will show up at some point. As long as he is eating, drinking water, and enjoy his kickaroo toys (oh, and using the litter box okay), then he should be fine. Enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts. If he he is truly a bengal, i won't be long before he'll have you running around like crazy chasing after him.

Another thing is that your kitten is a single kitten and you are his only playmate. I would imagine having kittens in pairs would equal a lot more zooming around and playing!

Playing 15min a day would be real concerning to me. That's definitely not right for a 13 week old. Especially a bengal.
