Well, we've had our Wee kitten Zuma for around 4 weeks. He was litter trained when we got him but he'd had little handling. He is coming round to being more friendly and was neutered today. Over the past 4 weeks, he has urinated on our main bed - on three occasions we were in the bed. He has used his litter box regularly and has had access so not sure hats going on. I wondered whether being neutered would make a difference - maybe even to his wild half hour that happens every night.

All thought and ideas gratefully received.

Welcome to our forum! I hope you discussed the situation with your vet when you took him in for his neuter! There is a lot of information online with solutions on trying to stop the problem. The doctor should have checked to make sure everything is well with the cat. With no medical problems, the cause is stress! You have not had your kitty very long. You should be using the same type of litter box and litter that the breeder used. If needed, add another litter box or two, and place them in areas convenient for the kitty.

Know that neutering is not going to change your kitty in any way except that he cannot impregnate a female. He will not calm down -- bengals have unlimited energy and will continue to have that for the rest of their adult lives.

Make sure you have cleaned the area where he has peed completely with Natures Miracle or some other cleaner made especially for the problem. If you do not want him peeing on your bed, you can place a litter box in the bedroom of keep the area closed off to him. He may want to sleep with you, but cats do not generally go to the bathroom where they sleep.

Do not yell at the cat or punish the cat in any way. It will just compound the problem. Try not to stress out of this and the cat can feel your stress and that isn't going to help. You first need to make sure there is nothing medically wrong (urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine) and then go from there. Think back and see if something has changed in his environment. Can he see other outdoor neighborhood cats? If they are out there, he can smell them, as well. Bengals love to mark their territory, so look out the bedroom windows and see what's going on out there.

Really appreciate your response. Well thought through and concise. I'll probably go back to the vet as I was more interested in getting him home safely. Will let you know how I get on.

I hope you will check out some of the videos out there with recommendations. I can't name every cause or reason why a cat goes to the bathroom outside of the litter box. They just do -- but Jackson Galaxy has some videos that might be able to help you out. Here is one:

So we've been to the vet and everything is fine re Zumas health so that's good. He suggested that it could be that he is marking his territory and as we keep him out of the room, he's marking as he has limited access. We've to try and give him some access - carefully.
Thanks for the responses and more welcomed.

There is a difference between "marking" and "urinating" for a cat. The butt in the air, tail raised and squirting is marking territory. Cats squat when they are just peeing. So, if he is marking, there is something that is infiltrating his territory that he does not like, thus I wonder if there is an outdoor cat that he can sense and see or smell. That will definitely cause the marking in the house. A Feliway diffuser in the room might help. Mine has marked a few times in the house -- our headboard is a favorite spot (especially if we are in the bed) and it's because the outdoor cats come around from that side of the house. I am using a Feliway diffuser and it has helped.

A few points:

Soft bedding, like quilts, feels like sinky sand of litter trays to kittens! They like standing on it as it's soft. So look at what type of litter you are using and if you have enough. Sometimes kittens need several small trays dotted around the house initially.

Feather in duvets are bleached and smell of wee to cats. They are more likely to wee on feather comforters and duvets than synthetic ones.

Clean with an enzymatic cleaner to remove all scent. Do not use bleach or fabric conditioner, these smell like wee to cats!

Good luck, my 9 year old bengal never grew out of this!!!!!!

We had a siamese when I was a kid that used to pee in the bathtub. We used to keep the door closed because of it, but she still managed to sneak in there and go! There are worse places to go I guess.

Feliway plugged in. Limited access to the bedroom and so far so good. Thanks for all of the advice.

Aargh!!!!!

So far so good. I take that back. Basically has had access to our bedroom mist of the day but have restricted access at night and only let him in once we know he's been to the box. Today we thought we'd chance it and let him in. He came straight onto the bed and urinated whilst I was in it - on top of me ON THE DUVET!! Back to the drawing board. Do think the feliway worked but the restricted access is clearly the way forward.

There is something about that duvet that is attracting him. I would add a litter box in the bedroom. And you must make sure that the area where he goes is cleaned completely with a cleaner made for cat urine. If not, then he will continue to go there. Even if YOU can't smell it, he can. Also, if he can see out the windows, close the blinds/curtains. We don't know what is walking around on the outside. He is young enough that if you can change the behavior now, he should be okay from here on out.
