Hey all,

I'm collecting my new kittens from the breeder in just four weeks (so excited!) and am in the middle of kitten-proofing my house at the moment. The things that I've done so far are:

1)invested in screw-top canisters for my washing powders etc
2)slowly rehoming all breakables into cupboards with doors
3)will tie curtain-opening cords up higher (my boyfriend's new job, at 4ft11 I can't reach them when tied up out of reach of the window-sill )
4)keep all bits and pieces off the floor
5)found a good home for my beautiful tiger lilies.
6)kittens won't be allowed in the toilet/bathroom (too much girly junk all over the place, there aren't baskets big enough lol)

can you think of anything else I've missed? I'm starting to get strangely paranoid and imagining all sorts f disasters that could happen to my kittens. They can't really strangle themselves using strappy sandles, can they?

The only thing I'm having trouble with is keeping the wires safe. In my bedroom, I'm fine as all things are connected to a single multiplug thingy which gets unplugged when I'm finished on my laptop. I have a similar set-up downstairs but don't want to have to unplug it all overnight as that's when cheesy movies get recorded . So behind the TV is a tangle of wires from several different appliances all using a mutliplug. The back of my entertainment unit is open so all the wires are exposed as it isn't flush against the wall due to the strange shape of my living room.

I the long stretch of extention to the multiplug can easily be covered but I'm stuck about what to do with the rest. If I were to bundle it all up as short as it would go, then wrap the bundle with several layers of masking tape, would it deter them enough? I've heard cats hate chewing that texture, but don't really want to take the chance. Same again with spray-on cat repellents. Even if I were to tape down everything on the floor, there would still be exposed wires leading up to the TV etc.

Also, what about kettle cords? Should I sort them out as well?

All help greatly appreciated. I've been lurking on these boards for a while now and soaked up a lot of good advice from here

I've found that mine don't really touch the wires behind the TV - I think they're too thick (the wires, not the cats ) The sort of wires they do go for though are mobile phone charger leads - they seem to be wiggly enough to be interesting. I have to make sure I keep them out of reach when devices are charging.

I think if you're worried about the TV cables, then bunching them together and taping them up is a good idea - the less the wires move around when touched, the less interesting they'll be to Bengal kitties.

Bet you can't wait for the new arrivals. Are they boys or girls? What colours are they? Have you any pictures yet?

Aww, they're all gorgeous - we love piccies on here so you'll need to have your camera ready when they come home. Malibu looks like a silver or is it just the light?

You can get conduit to thread the wires through from electrical suppliers. Alternatively, wrap them in a thick towel, tape and spray with vinegar. That will deter them
