OmNom how is Apollo doing? I was following this thread as my kitten is/was going through what sounds like the exact same thing.

It started back at the beginning of December when he would have issues with his hind legs (he became somewhat 'wobbly' and had a hard time moving around) but he would get better, and then it would start all over again. That happened for about 6 weeks off and on, with several visits to different vets who had no idea what was happening to him, until finally one day he just could not move and we were referred to a specialist. At first even the specialist vet was puzzled. After many tests (which put us out $1500), and Bandit staying over night, they still had no answers for us. But they put him on an antibiotic (which did nothing in the end) and Prednisone. They figured it was a form of Neuropathy even though they could not narrow it down to anything. After 2 days of being on Prednisone he was able to walk again (however still somewhat wobbly) and within 3 weeks he was back to his crazy self. Currently we are just starting to wean him off of the Prednisone and it's a 6 week process.

I was just curious to see how Apollo was holding up and if there have been any signs of relapse? I'm a little nervous about Bandit relapsing but we're hoping for the best.

I have been searching high and low for other bengal owners with a similar problem like my Quentin has ! I hope the treatment helped Apollo (he is a cutie !).

my baby Quentin was about 1 year old when i took him to the vet to get his shots. a day or two after, he started to limp, we could see his hind legs were not working all that well. and then it got worse, to the point he would take a few steps, rest for a couple of minutes, and then take a few more steps. i was freaking out. i took him back to the vet, and he ran some blood tests and xrays. the vet initially thought he had knee problems, but quickly came to the conclusion his shots probably caused a flare-up. after testing, they diagnosed him with myasthenia gravis. We put him on prednisone and his condition improved very quickly, he was back to running around within a few days of treatment.

What works for him these days is to give him 1/2 a dose every 2 days, and every day when i see he's starting to limp a little or gets tired after playing for only a few minutes.

however, Quentin doesn't jump high anymore, that never came back. He plays and runs a lot and now uses his upper body to climb up a 5 foot scratching post we made him. But his appetite came back with a vengeance, we call him the food nazi, he monitors everything his brothers (two regular tabbys) eat down to every bite and has developed a taste for sliced bread. we now keep it in the fridge because of course, he figured out how to open cupboards. all hell breaks loose when we dare feed his 13 year-old brother senior food in another room, he will go to great lengths to try to get to it and will meow nonstop until he gets a bite when his brother is done.

i'm glad treatment helped his condition, i was extremely worried and his last checkup was good. has anyone else had difficulty weaning off the prednisone ? every time i try to lower the dose, he starts limping again :(

How long as he been on the Pred for? Some cats need longer to wean off than others.

We went through it with Diesel - our vet had never heard of Bengal Polyneuropathy so I had to print out everything I could find and take it to him. Thankfully he was willing to listen. Diesel was off the steroids after 6 weeks and he's been his normal Bengal self since then. He even tore his ACL trying to jump just a little too high in our closet.

Hi, we have a Bengal 6 months old. We believe she has polyneuropothy. She was completely paralyzed. Unable to get to food/water or litter box for about 10 days. Our vet gave us steroids just to try. With in 24 hrs her tail began to move and 4 days later she was walking again. She started off on 1ml for a week and .5 ml for 3 weeks. After competition of steroids she bagan to relapse approx two weeks later. Over the course of 4 days she is back to barely being able to drag herself a few inches on floor. Has anyonevhad this experience with such a quick relapse? Should we start her back on her original dose of steroids.
