I am having some trouble with my bengal. We went and bought him a dog harness (the cat ones at the store didn't fit, I know it's not the correct way) my boy has slipped out of his harness twice and has ran like a bat out of hell trying to get home.

My bengal is a very big strong boy (15-20lbs). I need to find a cat harness that he will not get out of.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

He is getting out of the harness because it's too loose on him. You should only be able to get one finger under the straps. You should be using an H harness (two straps -- one around the neck and one round the chest) or order a walking jacket made especially for your cat. It sounds as if he is not liking the harness at all. Did you get him used to it inside your home before you ever took him outside? That is the key to successful walking. If he doesn't like the harness and you cannot get him used to the harness, then STOP and do not take him outside. There are other things you can do -- portable cat enclosures, permanent structures, etc. that will allow him to enjoy the outdoors safely. If he is nearly getting hit by cars, then the drivers are not slowing down when they see him or he has no idea what to do to get out of the way. It's dangerous and could be deadly.

I don't know the difference between a dog harness and a cat harness, but most cat harnesses have quite an adjustment in the straps. I'm guessing the dog harness is stiffer and the harness I have for my bengal is soft and flexible. I commend you for trying to walk your bengal. They can be a handful out on a leash, even if they are comfortable wearing one -- mine is and he's less than 13 pounds.

I have found Mynwood walking jackets are really good, you send the lady the measurements of the cat and she makes them to size, she owns 2 bengals herself so she knows about safe harnesses.

I've got the walking jackets for Lennon and Tabitha and they are great but you have to watch that your cat doesn't suddenly walk backwards because Lennon (Houdini) has done this twice now and he has got out of his jacket even though it isn't loose. Luckily enough for me Lennon is very cool and placid boy, he just stands there and doesn't run off.

Pretty coats. Both jackets are on too loosely. The pink one is especially loose-looking. If you can put a finger under the strap, it is too loose.

Yes I agree Tabitha's coat is on too loosely in the photo but I always check it is on much tighter when I take her out. Len has almost outgrown his coat as there isn't nearly enough velcro left to do it up, he's a very chunky boy.
