Sorry here I am again lol. Just a quick question I promise! I have just received the water fountain that I bought for my new arrival and I was wondering after the initial safe room and settling period if I could put the water fountain near where I feed my dog. Would a Bengal share with my dog as my little moggy did. Would this be a health risk for the cat or the dog? I used to feed the dog on the floor of the laundry room and the cat on the side in the laundry room, would this work with a Bengal? TIA you lovely people.

I really don't have any experience with dogs, but it seems to me to kind of defeat the purpose of the "safe room" if the door is open to the dog and he (and presumably the cat?) are free to come and go as they please? Or am I not understanding how that is going to work?

In general, kittens aren't real hung up about sharing. As they get older though, cats can often be a lot more possessive and hung up about having exclusive access and "ownership" to things, and it can create a lot of potential behavior problems (like feeling the need to "mark" things) if they feel like they are second-class citizens (better to give them there own stuff!). But you probably have 6-12 months or so before that sort of concern will "kick in", maybe longer.

In my experience I have seen cats and dogs sharing the water no problem, my brother had a dog and several cats and they shared same goes for my dad they had a dog and cats and all shared.

I'm guessing the water fountain has a filter so the water stays fresh. I'm sure it's fine for dogs and cats to lap up the same water. The outdoor cat I feed shares with the birds as he will ONLY drink from the bird baths. You can always put a bowl of fresh water out for your dog and see what happens. Your doggie may not like a fountain.

You have posted this in the Introductions section rather than the Discussion section.

Our cats drink from the dogs bowls all of the time and occasionally 2 of the dogs will drink from the cats big fountain in our kitchen. If they're willing to share there isn't anything wrong with it.

If you have drooly dogs like we do you will need to clean the fountain more often if the dog is using it.

Sherry the suspense is really killing me now. It doesn't help that my previous foster lady had bought a Bengal kitten and I drove her there to collect him on Tuesday. What an absolute beauty he is gorgeous!! I have spent my time waiting for my kittens by doing as much research as I can and to be as prepared as I can be. She on the other hand has no clue what having a Bengal is going to be like and she is totally unprepared for him. She called me in tears as the cat was going crazy and was pouncing on her 18 month old daughter who was screaming anytime the kitten so much as looked at her. She did not have a safe room she had not bought any toys whatsoever and she has not made any attempt to Bengal proof her home. To top it all she has put a deposit down on a 10 week old Maine Coon so I don't know what will become of that situation. As for her daughter she has calmed down a bit because he has laid near her and he has allowed her to stroke him so she is now getting more confident. I have a horrible feeling though that I may end up gaining another kitty in the weeks to come because I don't think that she is prepared for owning a Bengal. Listen to me all knowledgeable when i haven't even got my baby's yet!!! But I do feel as if I am ready for the challenge. I have 2 more sleeps now but I don't suppose that I will sleep much in the next 2 days I am far to excited. Having met her little boy I am all the more convinced that the Bengal and I are meant to be!!!!!

Hopefully this other bengal and owner are doing okay at this point. To add a Maine Coon into the mix is probably going to be the deal breaker!!! Bengals are highly territorial and they don't fit in personality wise with a Maine Coon. I hope you keep in touch with this lady and if things get bad, step in.

You've read up on bengals -- she should have. I don't think even we "experience" owners know everything we need to know about the breed! LOL
