I'm looking for a *safe* walking harness/vest from the UK for Ada and Babbage for when they go on holiday at the end of the week. I was planning to get one from Happy House cats, but forgot to order in time. Can anyone recommend something else? The requirements are:

1. It must be safe and secure
2. See 1

Prettiness and cost I am less bothered about ( no diamond studs/gold plating ) ;-)

I bought mine from ebay, Cat walking Harness jacket holster vest - Butterfly cat jacket. £12.50. Loads of hand made differnt designs.

If you need one by the end of the week, a trip to the pet store is going to be required!!! If you cannot find a walking jacket, then purchase an H harness. It is much safer than the figure 8 harness with one clasp. Raiden walks fine with his H harness. It has the safety of two clasps and the leash attaches to the back one to take the pressure off the neck area.

The woman who makes them is a bengal owner, so I think/hope that they should be designed with little monsters in mind. ;-)

We have had several jackets. Happy House Cats was fine. Mynwoods are my favourites. I'm surprised you can get it by week's end though. Ours took a few weeks because they, like HHH, are custom made. Hope you enjoy your trip!

I think the walking jacket is the safest and most comfortable as they are made with the cats measurements, I had the other type with my previous bengal and he escaped a few times.

Thankfully, Raiden doesn't wrestle with me, although he did manage to get through a neighbor's gate and get out of the harness while I was wrangling trying to get him back through a hole that got smaller once he went through it the first time. If I had a "fighter," then I'd get a walking jacket. He already gets wet from his H harness in the summer. I don't know that I'd want more fabric around him. Hope this all works out for you, Cranberry.

I hope so. I'm just packing up to get the ferry back to the UK tonight, it'll be nice if I can get both of them out in my mum's garden for a good sniff about.

I put a new vest on barney over the weekend. First couple times no lead just let him run around with it on. Then 3rd time attached the lead and took him into a closed garage, he liked it. He did really want to go back inside the house. That gave me a chance to test the vest and lead. It worked well didn't pull out of the vest, even while backing up and trying to escape. Another week or so we can go on some adventures. No more plane rides for a while.

You're doing this the right way for Barney. Getting a kitty used to the harness first before actually taking them outside is the key. Keep up the good work and you soon will be enjoying some beautiful outdoor weather together.

I agree that Mynwood are one of the safest and we'll made walking jackets as they are made to measure, the lady who makes them has 2 bengals so she knows all about them.

We got Mynwoods and cats haven't escaped from them yet. They have escaped with them during training (and the leash attached, causing havoc in the house). She also has some useful instructions to train cats to get used to jackets gradually.

I have only had one escape from the Mynwood jackets. We were in a hotel lobby and Quasar backed out of it. Now, I make sure it is as tight as I can make it, rather like fastening the girth on a saddle.

No escapes since.
