I'm Stormy, Albuquerque, NM. I brought my 5 month old "Romeo" to the vet for neutering and booster vaccinations, Tuesday. Today is Friday and he won't put weight on his left rear leg. He's not the same. He appeared extremely unstable. First night he wouldn't move, eat or drink (to be expected). Next day, we noticed his let rear leg swollen and no baring.

Took him back to the vet- they told me this was common- gave him clavamox. Day three- still not but weight on left leg. When he lays- he lays on right side and keeps the (what appears to be injured) leg straight out.

The Vet wants us to wait until he finishes is antibiotics-- But i'm so worried-- I've never had this happen in the past.

We plan on getting a second opinion tomorrow.

Anybody else experience this odd phenomenon?

Usually the vaccinations are put in a muscle in the back leg. My vet puts it in the left side. Mine has never had a reaction but many cats do. It's quite common. It can take several days for the soreness to go away and then your bengal could still favor that leg due to the discomfort he was feeling. At least he is being monitored by your vet. I, too, would not be overly concerned unless this continued for several more days. A second opinion is always welcome. Many cat owners do not vaccinate for this very reason, however, if your jurisdiction requires the rabies vaccine, then this is something you should have.

I'm editing to note that this should have nothing to do with the neutering.

I have not heard of this before as vets in the UK do all vaccinations in the scruff of the neck, hope he feels better soon.

Raiden gets three different vaccines and none have EVER been put in the neck area. I know the rabies vaccine must be put in a muscle.

Probably a reaction to the shot, but I would get a second opinion to be on the safe side.
