Hi, my Bengal LOVES to play with water. I have tried just about everything under the sun for a water dish and nothing stops his mess. I have wet cat tracks everywhere in the house, and then litter marks because his wet paws then get into the litter right after sometimes. He knocks over the water dish when it's nearly empty, he splashes it all around when its full. My kitchen floor is constantly wet. I even have a plastic tray underneath the dishes but that get soaked too. I also have 2 dogs and another cat that all need to share the water.

Any ideas??

My cat and dog share a water bowl. Quasar sometimes makes a watery mess. I keep a "water hog" mat (from LLBean) that is quite successful at containing the mess. I don't know how much it would help with the trip to the litterbox after playing though. It certainly does control the water mess and watery footprints.

I have to look into that mat. It's not even our Bengal that does it. The little one ran over there this morning right in front of me, lept into the air, and landed in the water bowl and got it everywhere.

Diesel loves to "drown" toys in the water fountains we have for the cats. The smaller one I use a rubber mat with a lip all the way around it to contain the water but the big fountain holds over a gallon of water so I use a rubber mat with a lip and then a larger rubber backed bath mat. It contains what he spills but I still have wet paw prints all over the place and an occasional soaking wet mouse toy on the carpet that leaves a big wet spot

Katniss does this too. Not all the time, but couple of times a day. She would put her paws in her water bowl and plays with it and gets it everywhere.. I've just got a mat under it at the moment. If it gets too messy I normally just remove the bowl for 10-15 mins. Luckily she doesn't go back to it straight away. She is also obsessed with running water. When I'm doing the washing up she tries to hop on the counter (she is too little to reach yet, so I put her on the tall kitchen bin). She just looks at it, like its the most fascinating thing she has seen. Same with bathroom sinks, when someone is washing their hands, she would sit on top of the loo and look at it. Don't even get me started with showers.. She likes to sit on the edge of the bath and gets quite wet. I don't really mind it all, I find it quite cute. Sometimes when it feels to quiet and I'll go see where she is, I often find her in the bath or sink waiting for the water to be turned on. Water hog mat seems like a great idea. I'll get one for the kitchen as well.

I keep a placemat under the water fountain with a towel under that, it seems to keep it at bay, Pearl splashes it all over the floor up the window of the patio doors everywhere.

I use a Neater Feeder which has stainless steel bowls. Raiden's splashing goes down into the bottom container. If you have a mat in front of it, it may stop the paw prints. Raiden is a real messy eater with the food. Thankfully, the Neater Feeder catches it. And I always find water in the bottom part of it. Not an expensive item at all and I ordered extra bowls for food and water (the water bowl is just a little bit bigger).

Merlin has a washing up bowl filled with water in the kitchen sink. I have a small towel along the side covering a bit of the unit and the edge of the sink, which catches most of the spillage - unless he's decided to empty the bowl! I also have a flannel over the edge where I stand when washing up, as he tends to throw water that way as well... I top-up the bowl as required, and empty / scrub / refill it fully every week, as he likes some standing water in it...
When he had a bowl on the floor, he simply upended it every day. Then was always crying for a drink...

I have one of those weighted stainless steel bowls that I use for dry food for the outdoor kitty.
