What is the retribution should the cat become ill within the first year?

I'm guessing Deputy's breeder had some issues in the past -- or maybe her kittens have a strong reaction to the vaccine. At any rate, getting vaccines is just a personal decision an owner has to make for their pets -- dogs and cats.

One of mine was accidentally given the leukemia vaccine and was very lethargic and off his food for a few days. We complainted to the surgery who said the vet was supposed to ask me which vaccinations to give my cat rather than just assume he should have them all. As this was his first kitten vaccines he didn't have the second booster vaccination for leukemia. When I next spoke to the vet she said she had assumed that because this cat was a moggy and not a bengal like all my other cats that he would be allowed outside and more at risk from contracting leukemia.

I had a beautiful Siamese years ago who developed a cyst on his shoulder where he got his vaccines (including the leukemia vaccine). He tested negative for the disease at the breeders and after I adopted him, yet at about 5 years old he contracted the disease?? He was always an indoor cat so this has always been a mystery to me.

With my next cat, I did not give her the leukemia vaccine and she lived to a ripe old age.

When I adopted Grace and Blondie, I also chose not to give them the vaccine and the pet rescue people and vet agreed it was a good choice because they are indoor cats and only go on a screened in patio.

The only challenge with this choice is if they need to be boarded, they will have to get the test again to prove they do not have feline leukemia.

It's true if you board your cat, it has to have all the necessary vaccinations or tests to prove negative. For me, it's just easier to have them all. Raiden sniffs, licks, everything on our walks. I just can't take a chance. FeLV is a horrible disease. There are at least four other cats who are outside and roam the neighborhood. Any of them could have something.
