I've also looked at using tracking devices for my boys. However they are always losing their collars so I've decided against it so far. They wear quick release collars which clearly work really well! I know I should be able to track the collars with a tracking device but I think my neighbours would soon get fed up with me trying to find them...!

I don't think a tracking device would cause any extra problems, but collars themselves of course pose a danger to the cat wearing them.

I'd love to get a tracker, but to me they need to get the size way down. Those things are BIG! Maybe on a huge dog it wouldn't matter, but I would feel awful tethering my cat to such a large object on their neck.

Since my cat is inside (or outside in a harness and leash), I don't really have to worry. I'd probably have the phone surgically attached so I could monitor his every move! Collars do come off and all you'll find is the device and no cat! And you may not really want to know how far your kitty travels. They are making these things much smaller and now they have one that is pretty small. It's made for other items, but I think it could be used for a pet. Unfortunately, the device doesn't guarantee your cat's safety outdoors.
