Our vets shut as its Sunday and we've just noticed a sort of saggy bump on Merlin, don't know how to describe it but I've attached a picture.

I don't think it's an emergency as Merlin is happy and running about as daft as ever but I'm unsure what it is. We were only at the vets for injections yesterday but I don't remember seeing this on him yesterday.

Does anyone know what it could be?

Your vet should have an emergency number you can call if you are really worried, they will talk it over with you and let you know if they think he needs to be looked at straight away.

I assume the bump isn't where he had an injection as you can get injection site reactions. Has he let you look at it at all, is it causing him any discomfort?

I think if he is running around still like a lunatic, you will be ok to wait til tomorrow if you are still worried, but if he goes off his food and becomes lethargic or any behaviour that isn't normal for him, I'd make a call to the emergency vet straight away.

It may be he's been caught with a claw while playing and he's got a bit of swelling or something, but you should be able to see a scratch, or puncture wound/bruising if he lets you look. Hendrix had really bad swelling under his chin recently where he got in a fight, when he let me look he was black and blue and he had puncture wounds, it started to go down the next day though.

No it's not where the injection was and he lets me touch it and doesn't seem bothered by it I couldn't see a puncture wound or mark but will have another look in case. Thanks Tabitha.

Has he laid on his back so you can have a better look? Is the lump soft or hard? Does it move around? That's a pretty large lump or sagging belly. Since you were JUST at the vet -- did they do anything else to him besides the vaccinations? As long as Merlin is acting normally and eating and going to the bathroom fine, this can probably wait until your vet is open on Monday. We have a animal clinic here that is open 24/7, 365 days a year (they are super expensive, though). I'd just keep an eye on Merlin and get him back to the vet tomorrow to be checked out. If there is any change in his behavior or eating or drinking or bathroom habits before then, I'd see if there was an emergency vet he could see.

Could he have been bitten or stung by something? That can cause swelling, I know Hendrix has been stung a few times on his paw and it really swelled up, looked like he had a club foot.

If it's no better tomorrow definitely get the vet have a look.

It just feels like saggy skin, I can't say it feels like a lump. He isn't bothered when I touch it. He's been eating normal and going to the bathroom. He's ran around all afternoon and is now napping. My other half is going to get him to the vet as soon as this week.

I couldn't see any bite/scratch marks.

He's been getting lots of fuss today.

The area is not where the primordial pouch normally is, so it can't be that. This happened so quickly. The vet would have definitely checked the abdomen area -- most won't just give the vaccinations. They do a wellness exam as well. Please let us know what you find out.

Saggy skin initially made me think that but like you said, Sherry, it's the wrong place.

Hi, We rang the vets this morning and they've said to keep an eye on him and if it's still there to take him in on Wednesday. Looking at him walking around this evening my other half can't see pouch anymore. I've been on FaceTime to try and have a look as well and can no longer see this. It's really strange. We'll still keep an eye on him. I'm a bit miffed.

Hopefully it's just one of those things and it won't reappear! Very odd though...

Strange that it would appear so suddenly and then vanish! Can't wait to hear what the vet has to say.

Any news? Merlin was at the vet yesterday.

We've not needed to take him in in the end, it's completely gone and he's still eating, playing and using his litter tray regularly, he was purring away when I was on FaceTime earlier x

The whole incident is so odd that I would have still aken him to the vet. The lump was completely obvious to you. You photographed it. You felt it. Now it's gone? Something like that reminds me of when I had to give my kitty sub-q fluids and they end up in the belly area -- I would be worried about a leakage somewhere. Keep an eye on him and if it happens again, he has to go to the vet! I can understand swelling if something bites the kitty (like a spider) but it should not be something that large.

Yeah I'll definitely take him to the vets if it reappears
