I’m sooo frustrated with my newly adopted Bengal (had her for over 2 months). She is about a year old, and when I got her she had a complete vet check; coming back healthy. But she pees on all my carpets and pillows. She did this some when I first got her, but figured she was stressed out. She uses her cat box great, minus the times she feels she needs to pee elsewhere!

I decided that she was going to be an outside/inside cat until we found her crossing a busier road! She has all the back doors with acres of pastures, and some homes, but no she has to jump my fence and go to the front of the house and cross the road!
I don’t know what to do? She is an awesome cat, but I can’t have one that pees everywhere. I’m renting my house, and my landlord would be beyond mad if he knew she’s peeing.

I had my carpets cleaned, tried using this really expensive enzyme type liquid, baking powder to neutralize the odor. I was gone this whole weekend, and when I came back my house (Brand new when I moved it) reeked of cat pee… HELP?

I would take her to the vets again to rule out health issues ie urine infections etc. Your other posts state she has problems with itching. Could it all be stress related? The peeing on your bed and pillows is her trying to mix her scent with yours, a sure sign of an insecure cat. Try some feliway plug ins and also get more large litter boxes and put them in the places she pees inappropriately. As frustrating as it is and believe me I have had a peeing bengal, try to stay really calm and build a loving relationship with her to make her as secure as possible. You mentioned you went away for the weekend and the house was not great when you returned. Did you leave the cat on her own all weekend? Bengals are such people cats, being left alone for long periods of time could also stress her. Maybe get a house sitter if you are out for long weekends etc. Other cats outside could also be affecting her behaviour so watch for trespassing kitties upsetting your girl. Make sure she has toys, cat trees and comfy beds that she can call her own to make her even more secure. Good luck

It's a tough one. Do you think your cat can smell where the other cat peed? Do you still have your friend and her cats with you? or have they gone? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your situation! If they are still with you then it could be territorial peeing, or just a habit that is going to be hard to break. I'd still put a litter tray preferably over the area of carpet where she likes to pee. With your bed, does she pee overnight or when you are not there? You could always stop her going into your bedroom when you are at work etc and only let her in there when you are there to supervise. It took me a good few months to sort out my cats peeing habit.

Goodness, these kitties are trying! Can you remove rugs, pillows etc as much as possible to stop her wanting to pee on them? I know you are using an enzymatic cleaner to totally remove the smell which is good. I also got feliway spray and sprayed areas where he peed to make him happy when in the pee area. If only we could talk to these cats!

Lots of people on this forum take their kitties for walks on a harness! You could try doing that to give her more freedom. Some members even take their kitties camping!

Becca, the number one reason a cat goes outside the litter box is stress! You haven't had her very long and it can take a while for a cat to completely settle in to a new home. The majority of cats use the litter box without any problem. However, based on the information you have provided, this new little kitty needs to be the only pet in the house. Dogs obviously stress her out and other kitties will too. A cat's sense of smell is 14 times stronger than ours, so there are odors that your cat can smell that you cannot (if you can smell the urine, imagine how it smells to your cat). There are times when a very stressed out cat needs to be rehomed where they are the only animal in order for them to settle down. Perhaps a small dog may not be an issue, but obviously, your kitty has had a lot of stress and you've got to get the stress gone. Note that Jackson Galaxy sells Spirit Essences, which are holistic remedies for various cat behaviors and there may be one that you can purchase and try and see if that helps: http://www.spiritessences.com. There are a million topics on Google about this. As I've mentioned in a previous post, not all remedies work for all cats. Every situation is going to be different, but getting your kitty to use the litter box exclusively may require better cleaning, another litter box, and an area for her away from other pets. She needs a cat tree -- tall cat tree or climbing shelves on the wall. Let her have something that is HER territory because bengals are territorial and they love to be high up. I've never had a cat pee outside of the litter box, so I don't know if the behavior will stop overnight -- but you have to have patience and give this some time. I know how frustrating this must be for you, but outside of finding her a new, quiet, home, you're going to have to take the time to help her. Good luck.

Another suggestion to at least attempt to save your stuff from being destroyed, is to go get a bunch of cheap plastic shower curtain liners from a place like Walmart or Target or even Amazon, and put them out over whatever her favorite places to go are, until this gets under control. Obviously you can't cover every inch of the floor, haha...but you can cover furniture, pillows etc that isn't being used at the moment.

We had a challenging first few months with our bengal kitten Orion while he was having pain association with the box from diarrhea. He was pooping and peeing on our two beds 3-4x a week, and every time we had to take off and wash the duvet, the sheets, and even the pillow tops on the mattresses...PLUS send the down comforter to the dry cleaner. Ugh talk about a hassle and so expensive! The shower curtain liners which were $5 each, saved us for about 3 weeks until he stopped the madness, and he pooped on them at least 6 times.

I also wanted to add, that with carpet it's tough because the urine has probably soaked through to the pad. You will likely need to pull up the carpet and clean and then soak the pad with enzymatic cleaner if you have any hope of truly masking that smell to her.

Good luck!

And, if your carpet and pad are on a wood subfloor, it's soaked into the wood, too. The only way to get rid of that is to use a sealer/primer type of paint and paint over it. If you don't, the smell will continue to come up through the pad and back onto the carpet. They have sealers for concrete, too.

Let us know how things are going.
