Hi guys,

I have posted on here a few times but just wondered if anyone out there has a melanistic, I know they are not exactly rare but I do not see them often and despite following numerous posts and wonderful stories on here of some beautiful fur babies I have yet to see one of a melanistic. I know they are not everyone's cup of tea but does anyone have one?
I also have a brown spotted girl and a snow lynx boy, we brought our melanisitic home a couple of months back at the age of 12 weeks he has settled in amazingly well and in typical Bengal fashion is a darling one minute and a terror the next!
Here's my trio...

Look for posts with Marmite - He is a gorgeous Melanistic, with an equally gorgeous sister called Evie.

At the top of the forum is a search engine - Type in "Marmite Eevee", and you will be pleasantly surprised...
Your furbabies are stunning as well! x

Lovely cats! I rarely see melanistics here, and I have never seen one person... would definitely like to!

Melanistics are pretty rare, which is why we don't see them very often. I heard one breeder was trying to get to the point where the parents were melanistic and all babies were as well. That might take several generations. They are gorgeous kitties.

What beautiful babies you have!

As Sherry said, I think the melanistics are pretty rare, and the high demand seems to be for brown rosetted or snows. There was actually just a post on here recently by someone asking how the melanistic bengal is any different from a plain black cat. They aren't easily identifiable as a bengal, so the appeal is probably lower, but they obviously (to us anyway) still have spots and that amazing bengal energy and personality. I'm sure if the demand was higher for melanistics, breeders would have more incentive and figure out a way to make them more prominent. :)

Awesome! I love seeing pictures of black bengals. They really are rare! We've had very few in this forum, so they are really a treat to see. I hope you post lots more pictures  I used to have a black moggy who was a great cat and she was like a little ninja. Able to seemingly vanish at a whim, only re-appearing when she wanted to be found. I can only imagine what a black bengal would be like

Melanistics resemble a black panther and some people find them desirable. Melanistics carry a certain gene. I remember a segment of Cute Kittens on the Animal Planet channel and there was Walter in the litter -- a melanistic that looked so totally different from the rosetted bengals in the litter. He was the little trouble maker and the breeder kept him.

LOL! I can relate to this! When we brought Jaego home I was prepared for the whirlwind that comes with a Bengal kitten (he is our fourth Bengal to date) however he is by far the liveliest wire I have ever had, he is full of life and mischief and makes our other bengals past and present look like saints (and he is only 5 months old eeek!!)
