First of all, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your little boy! If you've read through some of the topics on introducing another cat or kitten, you've seen that the owners come here exasperated with the way the introductions are going and are looking for help. Go to the end of the topic and see the amazing change in just a short while. You're going to want to get a kitten with the energy level of your bengal. A Ragdoll is not that cat. While as a kitten, it will be playful, as an adult, they are more laid back. A bengal would be the best for your bengal!

A mistake you made was taking Zeus into another home to meet cats! Cats are highly territorial! Zeus was an intruder into their territory! Naturally, cats hiss at each other. Hissing is fine. Aggressive fighting is not. Many members here have two of more cats -- and some have bengals and moggies or other purebreds. You know your house and your situation better than anyone, but adding another cat can be stressful until the cats can co-exist. For some, it can happen quickly, for others, it can take a month or more. You simply have to supervise the cats, make sure they are properly introduced over time, and make the cats your priority until things are settled in. Your patience will be tried over and over again and there have been times when the owner thought the cats could NEVER get along. I try to encourage everyone ..... to take the time and be patient and let the cats go at their own pace. Trying to force them together is not going to work.

Zeus is such a cutie pie! He looks like he would get along with any kitty!

6 months old is a great time to get Zeus a companion around his own age, if possible. I think (and someone correct me on this if I'm wrong) that gender is not a consideration at this age. They will just be two kittens running around together, having a great time destroying the human's house.

But you will need to observe the standard 2 week introduction period and quarantine of the newcomer. The new cat will need its own room for a while, and if there is a door with an inch of open space at the bottom, this is perfect for sniffing each other and playing pawsies. Cats are ruled by scent, so you will need to spend time with each cat in turn, and gradually your scent will mix with the scent of both cats for a community scent.

Thanks guys for replying. We've been to the breeder we got Zeus from (he's actually soon to be 5 months, miscalculated there hah) and she has a litter of snow bengals almost ready to go. So we are considering this. It would be 3 months younger than Zeus, so that's not too bad. It's not going to be hard to introduce them though, as we live in a one bedroom flat and we could only separate the kitten to be in our bedroom but Zeus is used to sleep with us and he follows us wherever we go. But we would manage somehow.

Never pretended to want a ragdoll for Zeus, I said I love ragdolls :) But since it's not a great match, we're not getting that.

I was quite impressed with my bengal mix Thomas after we got through the two week introduction period. I adopted/rescued a little special needs calico, she has neurological damage and still not fully grown. Thomas went from being an anxious and clingy cat to being the daddy of the house. Totally took her under his wing and showed her how to be a cat. He lets her pounce on him and chew on his ears, and she wants to do everything he does. It's so adorable to watch them interact, and I don't worry about either of them being lonely or bored when I'm gone.

LadyKay, that's so sweet. See, posts like that give me hope that maybe it is more than worth it.

I think it's definitely worth it since Zeus is still so young! Just know that the kittens will prefer each other to you humans! But, they will be great playmates and their antics will amuse you for hours on end.

I would look for a playful, energetic, cat, whichever breed. My ragdoll and my Bengal get along great, but there are also others for her to play with as well. Take your time with introductions, that is the main thing. I wouldn't read to much into your cat being upset meeting the other cats, it was a new place, people, animals, etc.; it was probably more stressful of a situation than you realized for him. Good luck!
