We are preparing to leave Moab Utah where we have been on a weekend getaway.

We have been taking our Samoyed and Bengal out hiking with us and on drives around the mountain roads.

Quasar loves to explore the trails at his own pace and has recently discovered sand.

He runs to any open, sandy area on the trail, digs in it, crouches low to the ground and drags his belly on it, and rolls in it.

Where we live, in norther Utah, we seldom see exposed sand on our outings so this is unique for him.

Does anyone else have a sand loving cat?

Maybe it reminds him of Kitty litter?

Possibly. He doesn't attempt to pee though. Also, he does not play or roll in his litter at home.

We took him rock climbing this morning, after I wrote the initial post. He scent-marked the rocks with his cheeks. I wonder if scratching and rolling in the sand is an attempt at marking.

Mine does that in the grass. Raiden has never been exposed to sand. We have clay around here. I'm so thrilled your kitties do so well out in the open like that. I know of people who take their bengal everywhere -- even shopping. That's just not something Raiden would behave for! He's a little monster at times and I could NEVER enjoy myself if I had to look after him every second. Even on our walks, if I turn my head away, he's off in someone's yard or inside their flower bed. If I'm not careful, he walks through our steel fence in the back. I'm not small enough to squeeze through and trying to get him back through is always an issue. I guess if you've trained them from a young age -- it goes easier.
