my poor baby is sick :(

So my other cat Lilo, a moggie, got very sick last week. All of last week she was vomiting up all of her food and had runny poo. Then, she stopped eating completely. I visited the vet and they couldn’t really pin-point the cause and instead just gave me some easily digestible food to give her. She didn’t eat it. Of course. If she wasn’t going to eat her favourite food and treats, she wouldn’t eat this, either. We took her back and the vets decided to keep her overnight and do some tests. Blood test came back fine, faecal test came back fine. They gave her antibiotics and put her on fluids. They kept her for a second night, she still wasn’t eating.

I went to visit my poor baby last night, and she was lying there, still sleepy from the sedatives they gave her. It seemed like she almost didn’t even know I was there. I began to speak to her gently, let her sniff me and gave her some nice pats and scratches. After a few minutes of this, she recognised me and began to purr. I swear I even saw a little smile on her face. She was so happy to see me!

She rubbed against me, opened her eyes up as much as she could, and even managed to stand up. To my surprise, she even went over to her food bowl and had a few bites of food!! For the very first time in 4 days, and since being at the vet.

The vet was so surprised and happy that she managed to eat something. It just really touched my heart that it made my poor baby happy to see me and she managed to get on her feet and eat. She must have been so scared and confused when we dropped her off, maybe she even thought we weren’t coming back for her.

Of course, I cried a little because I love her so much and it made me sad to see her like this, but happy at the same time because I could really feel the love she has for me.

So many people say that cats are not like dogs and don’t love their humans as much. They are so wrong. Our cats have so much love for us, and it is very evident, especially in times like these.

I hope my baby gets better soon (she is having an x ray done today) and I can bring her home. I miss her.

that's so tough. I hope she gets to come home soon. It's good that she's starting to eat!

When our dog had emergency surgery last year he wouldn't eat for the vet and she wouldn't release him until he ate :rolleyes:

We had to go and spend several hours with him before he would eat for us but he finally did and he got to come home later that night.

Oh, I am so very sorry to hear your kitty is sick! I HATE that! I hope the vet can pinpoint what the problem might be so they can treat it. I hate when they give antibiotics without knowing what they are trying to treat! Eating is so important as she needs to get her strength back. The vet sent me home with a syringe and pate food that I could force into Raiden's mouth! You don't want your kitty to go 48 hours without eating anything as the liver starts to breakdown the fat and it can be fatal if not caught in time -- so it's great that you took her to the vet immediately. I'm fortunate that our vet is 2 miles down the street, so any time Raiden is not acting just right -- off we go! Better to be safe than sorry.

Hope you get to bring her home soon as i know she will respond much better to familiar surroundings. My vet does not like to keep a cat overnight unless absolutely necessary. Much less stress on the cat if they can be in their own environment.

Thank you, everyone. Unfortunately the vet has discovered that it was cancer. Her intestines were very inflamed and she was in a lot of pain. The best option for her was to put her to sleep. I didn’t want to put her through the pain of more tests, surgeries and medications. RIP my baby.

So sorry to hear that. At least you gave her a happy home before she became poorly as if I remember rightly she was a rescue.

I'm so sorry, hun. Something similar happened with my moggie cat almost three years ago - I feel your pain. I hope you're able to find some peace, and that you can treasure the memories you had together.
