Another aussie gal here too - based in Canberra (although moving to Adelaide in a little under a year!!)

Hubby and I both work from home, and we have three cats. They generally keep each other occupied, so we don't need to worry about banning them from the room. The biggest problem we have is when they get into chasey games and pay no attention to the fact that that's a computer they're using as an escape route or launching pad. Our bengal girl also likes to be involved in our telephone conferences (especially when talking to colleagues from elsewhere in the world - think she likes accents!!). She gets VERY talkative. She loves to come and sit on my lap when she's sleepy, or sits at the top of a high scratching post monitoring the goings on in the room until she falls asleep. Very rarely she tries to walk around on the keyboards (usually when she's in a REALLY smoochy mood and not paying attention to where she's walking - just trying to get close to me).

So it is very much the case that all bengals are different.

I'd also recommend getting a second cat - doesn't need to be a bengal (although a second bengal would match it for energy levels, and you could get litter mates who would already be accustomed to each other). Only one of ours is a bengal, and she takes turns harrassing our two boys until they're both exhausted. When one has had enough she moves onto the next. As meimei mentioned, the benefits are that they will occupy each other and it will help save your furniture, your attention span for your study, and is also a whole lot more entertaining!! Your cats will be much happier with a companion.

btw - Ours HATES the car when she's in a carrier. If I let her free in the car she'll generally sit on the passenger seat and look out the window and be happy. Doesn't happen often though! I think if you get them used to the car from very small then they're fine. I used to have a cat that would get upset with me if I didn't take her in the car when I went anywhere, so she went with me to all my friend's places, grandmother's, parents, anywhere I could take a cat.

I'd also say : get 2 . Not necesserally 2 Bengals, I have a DSH and a Bengal, both the same age and both very active so they are perfect company to each other (of course, don't take a Persian... ).

That way they'll play together instead of bothering you while you study (except for the *CRASH* which will get you up anyway )...

They might bother you something like one or 2 hour a day, but don't forget that cats sleep something like 16 hours a day so you'll have some quiet moments . I guess all cats aren't alike, but mine sleep from 9 to 12 am and from 2 to 6 or 7 pm, then again from 9 to 11 pm (as we work in the morning and afternoon, they matched their rythm to ours I guess, but they'll keep the same in the week ends, that's how I know ). And when they sleep, they sleep soundly, so you should be ok to study .

The only problem is when you have a laptop like me and keeping it on your lap, as cats love to get all the attention even when sleeping, they'll try to curl up on the space between you and the keyboard, making typing difficult (even more because Onyx loves licking my fingers), but with a big computer (or keeping it on a desk) that won't be such a problem I guess .

If i say the breeder is it likely someone will want to buy the same kitten? I haven't put a deposite down yet.

But she is a member of the FCCV – Feline Control Council of Victoria. And she socalises all of her cats. She really loves them, I could tell by the way she talked about them all.

So, the ticking on the little guy, is it bad?

you sound very responsible & considerate & this little guy seems like he could be a good match for you. his ticking isn't bad...especially as he will only be a very special pet for you rather than a breeding boy

i would say give it a try, but then i'm a complete bengalaholic so i'm ever so slightly biased!

My boys' coats are ticked. Basically it means their rosettes aren't as clear as they would be, but they're just special pets, so nothing to worry about. Glad to hear she's registered, I doubt anyone would buy him out from under you (!!) but I remember how paranoid I was before mine arrived so feel free to keep the breeder's name under wraps until he's all yours!
(I only asked because I've seen a few people in Victoria who were trying to sell unregistered Bengals - and for the same prices, too!

Well the breeder sent me some more pics today.
He's just beautiful, so I told her that I'd like to put a deposit down.
I'm pretty excited!
